Daniel Cates

In last week's Online Railbird Report, we reported that Dan "jungleman12" Cates had won $533,290 in 34 sessions/4,060 hands during the previous week. We never imagined that he'd win more than twice as much playing the same volume this week.

Amazingly, Cates finished as this week's biggest winner with $1,185,862 in profit from 5,128 hands spread across 32 sessions, most of which came from playing 2-7 triple draw.

Not far behind, "kagome kagome" finished with $920,982 in profit playing the same game. His win, which comes on the heels of winning $407,420 last week, came from 2,767 hands over 16 sessions. Other winners this week included Ola "no_Ola" Amundsgard (+$211,173 in 36 sessions/3,924 hands) on Full Tilt Poker, and "Trueteller" (+$184,252 in 15 sessions/2,057 hands) on PokerStars.

On the flip side, Viktor "Isildur1" Blom's slide continued as he dropped $1,246,764 in 9,877 hands over 75 sessions this week. Likewise, Alexander "PostflopAction" Kostritsyn (-$783,875 in 31 sessions/3,027 hands), "samrostan" (-$457,873 in 51 sessions/4,573 hands), and Ronny "ronnyr37617" Kaiser (-$220,452 in 50 sessions/3,410 hands) all finished in the red this week.

On a side note, Ben "Bttech86" Tollerene, who had been 2014's biggest winner (up $1,828,238 in last week's Online Railbird Report), joined the list of players who have opted out of having their long-term results tracked, a topic I've addressed in the past. As such, Cates is now sitting atop the yearly leaderboard.

Ray Banks $117,100 in Thursday Action

On Thursday, March 6, Kyle "KPR16" Ray finished with $117,100 in profit, all of it coming from a heads-up match against "Tight-Man1" at the $200/$400 no-limit hold'em tables. The duo played for two hours, and during that time Ray won the biggest pot.

Ola Amundsgard

It began when "Tight-Man1" ($77,998.40) opened for $920 and then called when Ray ($72,272.90) three-bet to $4,000. When the flop came down 3?4?J?, "Tight-Man1" called a bet of $4,000 and watched Ray fire out $11,200 on the K? turn. "Tight-Man1" called once again and then called when Ray shoved the K? river for a little over $53,000. Ray tabled the J?J? for a full house, and it was good as "Tight-Man1" mucked. The $144,546 pot was shipped to Ray.

Amundsgard Cleans Up in Friday PLO Action

On Friday, March 7, the $200/$400 CAP pot-limit Omaha games were going strong and resulted in two big winners. Ola "no_Ola" Amundsgard finished as the day's biggest winner with $177,700 in profit, while Hac "trex313" Dang was the second biggest with $124,400. Here's a look at the day's two biggest pots:

Hand #1: At a six-handed table, two folds put action on "mikki696" ($10,575.50) and he opened for $800 from the cutoff. Amundsgard ($80,365) responded by three-betting to $3,000 from the button, Gus Hansen ($15,508.50) four-bet to $10,200 from the small blind, and Jens "Ingenious89" Kyll?nen ($24,169.50) called from the big. "Mikki696" then put in the rest of his chips to cap the pot, the other three players called to create a pot of $58,100, and the cards were turned up.

Kyll?nen: 4?8?6?5?
Hansen: A?A?J?4?
Amundsgard: A?A?7?2?
"mikki696": 6?4?7?3?

The 8?6?3? flop gave Kyll?nen the lead with two pair, and the 8? turn actually locked him up the hand with a full house. The K? completed the board on the river, and Kyll?nen was pushed the pot.

Hand #2:

Cates Dominates Triple Draw

Daniel "jungleman12" Cates' week got off to a good start on Saturday, March 8 when he won a hefty $609,900 playing 2-7 triple draw. It was the cherry on top after he received his Full Tilt Poker balance C which is rumored to be seven-figures C earlier in the week.

Daniel Cates

Cates' win came against Alexander "PostflopAction" Kostritsyn at the $2,000/$4,000 2-7 triple draw tables. The rivals played two matches, with the first lasting a mere 68 hands. Even so, Cates managed to take the Russian for $102,000. An hour later, the two played for 140 minutes and Cates added another $317,000 to his bankroll. Cates won a little more in a six-max game later in the evening to round out the day with over $600K in profit.

Despite the big win, Cates actually lost the day's biggest pot. It happened at a six-handed $1,000/$2,000 2-7 triple draw table when Gus Hansen ($108,505.50) opened for $4,000 under the gun, "samrostan" ($73,972.50) called, and Cates ($138,934) three-bet to $6,000 from the small blind. Hansen capped it at $8,000, both his opponents called, and the following draws occurred:

Cates: 1
Hansen: 1
samrostan: 2

Each player ended up putting in $6,000, and then drew a single card on the second draw. Cates led out for $4,000, Hansen called, and "samrostan" raised to $8,000. Cates folded, Hansen called, and it was off to the third and final draw. Hansen took one while "samrostan" stood pat. Hansen then check-called a bet of $4,000, and mucked when "samrostan" rolled over the nuts with 7?5?4?3?2?. Ship the $72,000 pot to "samrostan."

Three days later, Cates was back at the $2,000/$4,000 2-7 triple draw tables and put in an eight-hour session. During that time he won $173,600, which was enough to make him the day's biggest winner.

"Trueteller" Wins on PokerStars

On Wednesday, March 12, "Trueteller" squared off against "yurasov1990" at the $50/$100 no-limit hold'em tables over on PokerStars. The two played for seven hours, and during that time "Trueteller" took his opponent for $173,900, which included winning the day's biggest pot.
