2024 WSOP Day 43: Aldemir Reaches Day 4 of the Main Event as Six Champs Progress

Day 43 of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas saw Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship get close to bursting the money bubble, with Day 3 ending with only 1,524 players, and 1,517 places paid.

The third day of the record-breaking Main Event saw hundreds of heroes and heroines fall by the wayside, but almost as many punch their Day 4 tickets and keep themselves in contention for the $10 million top prize, including five past champions.

Two players received gold bracelets on Day 43 of the 2024 WSOP. The first went to Garth Yettick in Event 83: $1,500 Eight Game Mix 6-Handed, a result worth $131,061. Yettick was the underdog going into the final table as his only recorded in-the-money finish came in 2005, and he was locking horns with the likes of Marco Johnson, Maxx Coleman, John Racener, John Cernuto, and Josh Arieh. Yettick proved worthy of his victory after defeating Arieh heads-up, preventing the runner-up from collecting his seventh bracelet.

The second bracelet winner was ever-so-slightly better known. Chance Kornuth joined the four bracelet club after coming out on top of Event #85: $1,000 Flip & Go No-Limit Hold'em Presented by GGPoker. Kornuth played his way through the 1,088-strong field to scoop another piece of WSOP hardware.

Perez Moreno Leads the Main Event But All Eyes on Past Champions

Day 3 of Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship started with 3,617 players and ended with 1,524, just seven eliminations away from bursting the money bubble.

Spain's Francisco Perez Moreno claimed the Day 3 chip lead after amassing 2,187,000 chips, the only played to surpass the two million mark. Perez Moreno, a Pot-Limit Omaha cash player, swapped four-hole cards for two and enjoyed a fruitful day at the tables, which all but guarantees him a min-cash of $15,000.

Several big hitters crammed enough chips in their overnight chip bags to find their names in the top ten of the overnight chip counts. Alex Livingston (1,808,000) fared the best of those stellar names, but Matt Stout (1,670,000), Francis Anderson (1,655,000), Diogo Coelho (1,631,000), and Ren "Tony" Lin (1,570,000) can't be disappointed with their performances.

Those mentioned players and everyone else in the field dream of winning the Main Event, a feat already achieved by five of the surviving players.

Koray Aldemir (443,000) is in the best shape of the surviving past Main Event champions, closely followed by Joe McKeehen (420,000). Scott Blumstein (299,000) and Robert Varkonyi (288,000) are just on the lower half of the chip counts, while Espen Jorstad (136,000) and Daniel Weinman (82,000) have plenty of work ahead of them on Day 4. Weinman's stack is worth a shade over ten big blinds at the restart.

Slow structures play into the hands of seasoned professionals, so it is not surprising to see the chip counts littered with such established grinders. Alexandros Kolonias (1,310,000), Nacho Barbero (1,289,000), Jans Arends (1,189,000), Adam Friedman (1,171,000), and Danny Tang (980,000) return in the top 75.

Elsewhere, you find such luminaries as Loni Hui (928,000), Joshua Reichard (854,000), Jesse Lonis (842,000), Vivian Saliba (675,000), Brian Rast (659,000), Phil Ivey (597,000), and Maria Ho (402,000).

Day 4 shuffles up and deals at 12:00 p.m. local time on July 10, with five more two-hour levels scheduled. Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship Day 3 Top 10 Chip Counts

$600 Ultra Stack Ends With 19 Players in the Mix

Only 19 players remain in Event #84: $600 Ultra Stack No-Limit Hold'em despite 788 players returning to their seats for Day 2. The action was fast and furious throughout proceedings but went a little crazy as the day's end approached, with a handful of players busting in quick succession.

Axel Orellana not only survived the madness around him but also claimed the overnight chip lead. On Day 3, Orellana returned with 57,500,000 chips, the equivalent of 58 big blinds.

Whoever comes out of this event on top will become a WSOP bracelet winner for the first time and also bank $343,010 for their efforts.

Perhaps the most experienced player among the final 19 is Daniel Rezaei (17,600,000), who is a top-tier online poker grinder over $3.2 million in cashes and another $3.3 million from the live arena.

See if Orellana, Razaei, or one of the other 17 hopefuls becomes this tournament champion when play resumes at 2:00 p.m. local time on July 10.

Event #84: $600 Ultra Stack No-Limit Hold'em Top 10 Chip Counts

1,071 Turn Out for the Inaugural $1,000 Mystery Bounty on Day 1a

On Day 1a of Event #86: $1,000 Mystery Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha, a brand new event for the 2024 WSOP, the field of 1,071 entrants was reduced to only 193.

Six players ended the night, which spanned 17 levels, with over one million chips. Gene Grieshaber (1,211,000) is the first flight's chip leader, closely followed by Daisuke Ogita (1,205,000), EPT Prague champion Ramzi Jelassi (1,171,000), Dimas Martinez (1,114,000), and Brian Brunner (1,064,000).

Scott Bohlman (798,000) finished 11th in the overnight counts as he looks to go three places deeper than his fourth-place finish in the $3,000 Nine-Game Mix event earlier this summer.

Also through are the likes of Lou Garza (574,000), Jason Wheeler (570,000), Jeff Madsen (403,000), Dan Shak (356,000), Jim Collopy (206,000, and Toby Lewis (116,000).

Day 1b starts at 10:00 a.m. local time on July 10, with PokerNews' traditional coverage starting on Day 2 on July 11.

Event #86: $1,000 Mystery Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha Top 10 Chip Counts

Brazilians Shine Brightly on Day 1 of the $5K No-Limit Hold'em

Event #87: $5,000 8-Handed No-Limit Hold'em ended with 88 players from a 1,041-strong crowd, each of them in the money. Right now, Brazilians are dominating proceedings, with the three podium places filled by Samba stars. Felipe Boianovsky (1,795,000), the 2023 SCOOP Main Event champion, leads the way, with Felipe Ketzer (1,380,000), and Yuri Dzivielevski (1,375,000) hot on his heels.

Patrick Leonard (1,370,000) is one of several players hoping to gatecrash the Brazilians' party. As are the likes of Fahredin Mustafov (1,300,000), Ramin Hajiyev (1,230,000), Artur Martirosian (1,190,000), and Galen Hall (1,170,000).

Also in the mix are Javier Gomez (1,085,000), Punnat Punsri (910,000), Faraz Jaka (600,000), Alex Foxen (430,000), another Brazilian in Renan Bruschi (330,000), and David Peters (230,000).

The 88 surviving players return from 1:00 p.m. local time on July 10 to play down to a champion.

What to Expect on Day 44 of the 2024 WSOP

The 2024 World Series of Poker enters its final week on July 10, but the action is still not showing any signs of slowing down. Event #81: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship will again, rightly, takes centerstage. The money bubble should burst early into Day 4 before reducing its player count dramatically.

Event #84: $600 Ultra Stack No-Limit Hold'em will award its bracelet and $343,010 top prize, with Event #87: $5,000 8-Handed No-Limit Hold'em also crowning its champion, while Event #86: $1,000 Mystery Bounty Pot-Limit Omaha will play out the second of its two starting flights,.

Day 44 sees the first-ever 8-Game championship kick off. Event #88: $10,000 Eight Game Mixed Championship commences at 2:00 p.m. local time and should be packed from top to bottom with poker's biggest stars. Many seasoned pro will see this event as a potential summer saver, so expect an all-star cast to get their grind on at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
