2022 WSOP Day 45: Colpoys Claims Chip Lead in the $50K High Roller

The 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event players enjoyed a hard-earned rest on day 45 of the series, but that did not mean the WSOP ground to a halt. Indeed, it was another day filled with celebration, jubilation, and unfortunately for some, disappointment.

Gregory [Removed:372] is one man who is celebrating after he became a WSOP champion for the first time. [Removed:372], who hails from France, came out on top in Event #75: $777 Lucky 7's, a result worth $777,777. That is the last we will see of [Removed:372] at the 2022 WSOP because he plans to hop on a plane and return home to his wife and three children.

Latvian poker players around the world are celebrating the victory of Romans Voitovs who will forever be known as the champion of Event #80: $600 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha. Voitovs found himself heads-up against Michael Dobbs with a massive chip advantage. The one-on-one battle lasted less than ten hands, with Voitovs securing the bracelet and $158,609 in prize money.

The third gold bracelet awarded on Day 45 of the 2022 WSOP went to the French mixed game specialist Julien Martini, who reeled in his fourth bracelet. Martini took down Event #79: $10,000 Razz Championship after it looked likely the tournament would require an unscheduled Day 4. However, Martini busted Yueqi Zhu in third and eliminated Hal Rotholz heads-up within half hour of the day's end to become a four-time WSOP champion.

Turmezey Leads the Final Ten in the $5K Freezeout

Day 2 of Event #81: $5,000 Freezeout No-Limit Hold'em saw the 153 returning payers reduced to only ten after ten levels of play. Emerging from the carnage with a tournament-leading stack of 8,810,000 was none other than Peter Turmezey.

Turmezey may be in pole position going into the final day's action but he has some talented players hot on his heels. British star Toby Lewis (6,665,000) is looking to add a WSOP bracelet to the European Poker Tour and Aussie Millions titles he already owns, while Adam Hendrix (5,140,000) and veteran Cliff Josephy (4,180,000) are certainly not there to make up the numbers.

Everything is shaping up to be an epic final table. Play resumes at 2:00 p.m. on July 15.

Lapka Comes Out On Top On Day 1 of the $600 Deepstack

Justin Lapka finished Day 1 of Event #82: $800 No-Limit Deepstack with 2,425,000, which proved enough to claim the chip lead. Lapka finds himself narrowly ahead of Marcelo Giordano Mendes who bagged and tagged a stack of 2,350,000.

Ukrainian star Artem Metalidi (1,895,000) is in the top 10 of the 167 surviving players, while the likes of Timur Margolin (1,220,000), Ran Koller (1,105,000), Blair Hinkle (875,000), Ari Engel (820,000), and Ryan Leng (395,000) also punched their Day 2 tickets.

Day 2 commences at 12:00 p.m. local time on July 15.

Colpoys Leads From Holz in the $50K High Roller

Dan Colpoys shone brightly on Day 1 of Event #83: $50,000 High Roller, bagging up 2,835,000 chips at the end of the 12th level of play. Colpoys' stack contains 11 big blinds more than high-stakes tournament guru and GGPoker ambassador, Fedor Holz (2,530,000).

As you can imagine in a $50,000 buy-in tournament, the entry list read like a who's who of the poker world. Such superstars as Stephen Chidwick (2,100,000), Brian Rast (1,635,000), Chris Hunichen (1,3800,000), and Joao Vieira (1,150,000) all bagged up top ten stacks.

Other elite players including Dan Smith (860,000), Justin Bonomo (810,000), Scott Seiver (550,000), Sam Soverel (530,000), Phil Hellmuth (395,000) also progressed to Day2.

Late registration is open until the start of Day 2 but anyone buying in then only receives ten big blinds.

Akkari Rides Off With the $3K H.O.R.S.E. Chip Lead

A field of 328 saddled up in Event #84: $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. but only 179 made it around the Day 1 course. Sitting proudly at the top of the chip counts is Brazilian superstar Andre Akkari, who finished Day 1 of this tournament with 262,100 chips, over 80,000 more chips than Greg Dyer (181,900) in second place.

Joey Couden (178,100) did his chances of winning a second bracelet no harm by bagging up a top three stack. Others who raced into Day 2 include Lawrence Brandt (135,600), David Bach (130,300), Adam Friedman (114,700), Dan Zack (112,700), Georgios Sotiropoulos (105,700), and Jeff Lisandro (88,700).

The surviving players return to the action from 2:00 p.m. local time on July 15.
