Up and Down for Marques

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Pedro Marques raised it up from the cutoff and Ari Engel defended his big blind. The flop came {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Engel check-called a bet of 62,000 from Marques. The {2-Hearts} landed on the turn and Engel led out for 115,000 this time. Marques called and the {j-Hearts} completed the board. Both players knuckled the table and Marques tabled {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} to win the hand.

In the next hand, Marques made it 55,000 to go and was called by Wilbern Hoffman in the cutoff. The two players saw a flop of {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Marques led out for 60,000. Hoffman raised to 165,000 and Marques called.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and Marques checked to Hoffman who slid out a bet of 275,000. Marques thought for a couple of minutes before making the call. The river was the {k-Clubs} and both players checked. Hoffman revealed {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and Marques sent his cards to the muck.

Baitai Li Eliminated in 14th Place ($18,802)

Baitai Li

Baitai Li opened preflop, three-bet to 180,000 by Truyen Nguyen. Back to Li, who moved in for around 400,000 - there was no count as Nguyen called without needing it - he held {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, and Li's {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} found no help from the {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{10-Spades} board.

A dramatic decline in fortune in the first half of Day 3 saw the two-day chip leader hit the rail in 14th place.

Marques Out-Kicks Olisar

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 24,000 ante

Ryan Olisar raised it from the hijack and Pedro Marques shipped all in for 440,000 in the cutoff. The action folded back to Olisar who called only to find out he was dominated.

Pedro Marques: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Ryan Olisar: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and Marques held the better kicker to earn himself a double up.

Down to 160,000, Kenny Hallaert jammed preflop when it folded to him. Small blind Truyen Nguyen paused for a while but eventually laid his hand down. Big blind Ryan Olisar's call, in contrast, was lightning-fast.

Olisar: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Hallaert: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{9-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts} while Nguyen had a quiet chuckle at having dodged bullets with his reluctant-looking fold.

Hoffman Doubles Through Olisar

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 24,000 ante

The action folded to Ryan Olisar in the cutoff who announced all in with three shorter stacks left to act. One of those players was Wilbern Hoffman who picked up a hand in the small blind and called off his stack of 344,000.

Wilbern Hoffman: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Ryan Olisar: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

Hoffman stood up from his chair to watch the board run out {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and he held on for a double up.

Small Pots Go to Big Stacks

Level 23 : 12,000/24,000, 24,000 ante

Ryan Olisar and Michael Finstein have taken down the first river-reaching pots of the new level. Olisar's was built blind on blind vs. Pedro Marques: he limped and Marques checked to see a {4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{a-Hearts} flop. Olisar check-raised Marques' flop bet of 45,000 to 150,000 and received a call. Action slowed completely on the {6-Hearts} turn and when the {7-Diamonds} river was checked through, Olisar showed {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for a flopped two pair to win the pot.

On the second table, Ben Keeline opened for 48,000 and Michael Finstein called in position, along with big blind James Hughes. Hughes folded to Keeline's 60,000 bet on the {6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Diamonds} flop, Finstein didn't. Both players checked the {5-Diamonds} turn, Keeline check-folding the {j-Clubs} river.
