Hughes Gets a Much-Needed Double Up

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

There have only been two hands played on Table 402 since the action resumed and much of the delay has come from James Hughes who was on the short stack. A few players have asked to go hand-for-hand but the tournament director has chosen to just monitor the situation.

The action was folded to Hughes in the small blind who thought for a couple of minutes before moving his stack of 190,000 into the middle. Ben Keeline took a moment but eventually called it off.

James Hughes: {3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Ben Keeline: {4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

The flop came {q-Spades}{j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Hughes remained in the lead with his pair of threes. The turn was the {2-Clubs} to give Keeline the larger flush draw but the {8-Diamonds} secured a double up for Hughes.

Pedro Marques Eliminated in 11th Place ($23,828)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Pedro Marques
Pedro Marques

Pedro Marques shipped all in for just shy of 200,000 in the cutoff and Ari Engel gave it some thought in the big blind. Engel eventually called and the cards were tabled with Marques in a dominating position.

Pedro Marques: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Ari Engel: {q-Hearts}{7-Hearts}

The flop fell {j-Spades}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Engel took the lead with a pair of sevens. The {9-Diamonds} on the turn was no help to Marques and the {j-Clubs} on the river sent him home in 11th place.

Hoffman Makes Good Fold (According to Engel)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Wilbern Hoffman
Wilbern Hoffman

WIlbern Hoffman check-called until the river vs. preflop raiser Ari Engel, 80,000 on the {7-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop and 175,000 on the {2-Clubs} turn. When Engel bet 260,000 on the {5-Diamonds} river, Hoffman (whose drink order arrived just at this crucial juncture) wheedled for a show from Engel, counted out the call and finally folded his hand.

"It would be good for the game if I could show a bluff," said Engel. "Good fold."

Another Double for Sammer

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Pedro Marques and Harald Sammer got all of their chips in the middle preflop and it was Sammer who was at risk for 326,000.

Harald Sammer: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Pedro Marques: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The flop came {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Sammer flopped a set of sixes to take a commanding lead. The {q-Clubs} on the turn sealed the deal and the {4-Clubs} completed the board as Sammer scored another double up.

Michael Finstein Eliminated in 12th Place ($23,828)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Michael Finstein
Michael Finstein

The action folded to Michael Finstein who raised it up to 60,000 on the button. David "Bakes" Baker three-bet to 180,000 in the small blind and Finstein thought for a minute before shoving all in for a little over 600,000. Baker instantly called and the cards were on their backs.

David Baker: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Michael Finstein: {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and Baker's pocket queens held on to eliminate Finstein in 12th place.

Double for Sammer

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Small blind (and huge stack) Ari Engel gave Harald Sammer a spin preflop after the latter had committed his last 150,000 or so from the button with what turned out to be pocket queens. Engel held {a-Spades}{10-Clubs} but did not improve.

Hughes Gets Involved, Short Stack or No

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
James Hughes
James Hughes

James Hughes has been involved in three hands in one orbit, losing two and winning one. The first loss was of a preflop 60,000 which he released when Ben Keeline shoved over the top. In the second, Hughes raised to 54,000 under the gun, called by Pablo Melogno in the big blind. Melogno check-called his 60,000 bet on the {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop, and the {4-Hearts}{k-Hearts} turn and river were checked down; Melogno won with {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} at showdown.

Shortly thereafter Josh Arieh raised his button to 65,000 and Hughes called from the big blind. Hughes checked the {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop, Arieh bet 50,000 and Hughes buried the lower part of his face in his hoody and tanked for several minutes, his reflective sunglasses showing the flop in reverse in perfect stillness.

Finally, he announced, "All in," and Arieh folded, bringing Hughes back up over half a million in chips.

Ian Steinman Eliminated in 13th Place ($18,802)

Level 24 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Ian Steinman
Ian Steinman

David "Bakes" Baker raised it up from under the gun and Josh Arieh stuck in a three-bet to 185,000 on his left. Ian Steinman was down to just 70,000 after losing the previous hand and he stuck his chips in the middle from the small blind. Baker four-bet shoved all in and Arieh instantly folded.

David Baker: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Ian Steinman: {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

Steinman found himself dominated and was looking to spike a three-outer. Unfortunately for him, it would not appear on the board of {9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{q-Clubs} and Steinman headed to the payout desk.
