Schultz Doubles through Pickering

The table folded around to Thom Schultz in the small blind, who completed. Jamie Pickering then raised 16,000 from the big blind, and Schultz called.

The flop came {5-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. Pickering fired 50,000 into the middle, and Schultz went into the tank. After counting out his chips, and shooting a quick look in Pickering's direction, Schultz made the call.

Pickering {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Schultz {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

The turn brought the {8-Hearts} and the river the {2-Spades}. That river gave Schultz a straight, and he doubled up to approximately 260,000. Pickering fell back to 160,000.

Tight Play So Far

Players have been playing very solid so far. Apart from the elimination there has only been one pot that made it to the river and that didn't go to showdown. Subequently chip stacks are fairly static.

Maybe the recent elimination will mean the shorter stacks will loosen up and try and accumulate chips to give them a chance to get back in this.

Ken Lairson Eliminated in 9th ($20,720)

The big blind finally reached Lairson. Too bad for him Vanessa Selbst had the button.

The table folded to Selbst, who raised to 22,000. Stanley Statkiewicz folded from the small blind. And Lairson called with his last chips.

Lairson {5-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Selbst {7-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The board came {3-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts}, and Lairson has been eliminated. Selbst added about 60,000 to her starting stack during that first orbit.

Lairson Lasting . . . for Now

We've almost completed one orbit. Not much action thus far. Selbst did take a modest pot off of Eugene Todd, and showed she'd flopped a straight after Todd folded on the turn.

The blinds are creeping around to Ken Lairson, who still sits with just a couple of big blinds left in his stack.
