Cody Gets it In

Yann Dion came in raising to 2,400 from middle position, and Jake Cody three-bet to 5,800 a couple seats over. Dion called the extra, and off they went to the flop.

It came {3-Hearts} {7-Spades} {J-Hearts}, and it checked to the raiser. Cody continued out with 5,800, but Dion presented him with a check-raise to 16,400 total. Cody only had 35,100 chips left behind by this point, and he needed several long minutes to think it over. During the course of his time in the tank, he double-checked his cards several times, thumbed through his blue chips to see how many he had left, and shot curious glances at the board, his opponent, and the ceiling. After what must have been five minutes, he picked up those last 35,100 chips in one hand and held them indecisively. Then he set them back down and thought for another couple minutes. Eventually, he resigned himself to his fate, and he plunked the chips across the line, knowing there was essentially no fold equity involved. He was working with {A-Spades} {K-Spades}, and he was actually in front as the cards laid with Dion showing up {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts}.

It was a coin flip for all intents and purposes, and the {2-Clubs} turn was safe for Cody. He couldn't fade the river, though, and the {10-Diamonds} dropped off the deck to pair Dion and send the Brit to the rail in silence.

With the knockout, Dion appears to have just ticked up to the 200,000-chip mark.

Koll Runnings

Joining the action on the turn of a {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Erich Kollmann check-raised all in for 115,100 over the top of Ismail Erkenov's 40,000 bet (with over 100,000 already in the pot). Erkenov made a quick call and found his {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} needing to hit against Kollmann's {J-Spades}{9-Spades} but the river was the {5-Clubs} - Kollman is the new chip leader and Erkenov is very nearly out.

Lopes Loses Minimum in Kooler

Bruno Lopes
Bruno Lopes

Somehow Bruno "Kool Shen" Lopes didn't double-up Koen De Visscher in a hand they played out, but he still lost a chunk.

De Visscher opened to from early position and the former rapper defended his big blind to see a {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{k-Clubs} flop. De Visscher continued for 2,200 and Lopes check-called before both checked the {6-Clubs} turn.

The river came {8-Clubs} and Lopes led for 5,400 and called when the Belgian raised to 15,500.

"Nuts," said De Visscher and opened {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} for quads!

Lopes opened {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts} to lots of "Wows" at the table.

Etayo Hits the 300k Mark

Dominik Nitsche opened to 2,400 from the cutoff and Javier Etayo made the call on the button before Mathew Frankland raised to 7,200 in the big blind. Nitsche folded but Etayo made the call to see a flop of {J-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Frankland fired out 9,400 but Etayo made it 25,100, Frankland then raised to 45,700 and Etayo flat-called to see the {9-Diamonds} on the turn. Now Frankland moved all and Etayo snap-called.

Frankland, "You've got a set?"

Etayo: {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Frankland: {K-Hearts}{K-Spades}

The river was the {10-Spades} and Etayo has won the biggest pot of the tournament so far to put him in the chip lead.

Frankland Moves Up

Mathew Frankland is among the chip leaders after he won a couple of big pots, the first against Dominik Nitsche when he rivered a straight and the second when he knocked out Martins Adeniya. The latter called down all three streets {K-}{5-}{3-}{A-}{3-} with {A-}{5-} only to have been coolered by Frankland's {A-}{K-}.
