Greg Rahn shoved all in from under the gun for the last of his chips and action made its way around to Stephen Webb, who called from the big blind.
Greg Rahn:
Stephen Webb:
Rahn improved on the flop to give him a pair of jacks but he did not stay ahead for long as the turn gave Webb a pair of aces. He leaned back in his seat and clapped his hands upon seeing the turn, staying there to see the river complete the runout to score the pot and the knockout.
Hand #1: Cody Jaeschke saw action folded to him in the hijack and opened to 20,000. He received a call from Justin Thurlow, who was on the button and the two went heads up to a flop of . Both players checked.
The turn was and Jaeschke bet 30,000. Thurlow postured for a few moments and then slid out a raise to 70,000. Jaeschke took a little while to think about his decision and then announced he was all in. Thurlow sent his cards to the muck.
Hand #2: Jaeschke opened to 20,000 again from middle position on the following hand and Thurlow called from the cutoff. They went heads up again to a flop of and Jaeschke checked. Thurlow fired out 22,000 and Jaeschke sent his cards to the muck.
With the pot, Thurlow finds himself just shy of 600,000 in chips with 31 players remaining and about one-third of Level 18 left on the clock.
Zeph Baer saw action folded to him in the cutoff and opened to 17,000. Jeff Taylor was on the button and three-bet all in for 63,000 and Baer made the call upon action folding its way back to him.
Jeff Taylor:
Zeph Baer:
Taylor was on the plus-end of the coin flip going to the runout, but would not stay there for long as the board ran out to give Baer a pair of queens on the flop and send Taylor to the payout desk.
The carnage had already happened with defending champion Nghia "3 Putts" Le's winning hand of from the cutoff still tabled on a board of .
"He had the worst hand!" joked another player at the table. The action was then provided, saying three players got stacks in before the flop. Jeff Petronack had ace-nine from the button and Nick Marsh had pocket eights in the big blind; neither was able to top Le's two pair of kings and queens and they were both sent to the rail with first-level payouts as Le now finds himself over a half-million in chips
Vic Peppe got the 98,000 he had in front of him all in preflop from middle position against Ian Matakis, who was in the small blind.
Vic Peppe:
Ian Matakis:
Peppe spiked an ace on the flop and was able to hold as the turn came and the river fell behind it to secure him the double at Matakis' expense, bringing him to over 200,000 in chips as Matakis now finds himself short nearing the end of Level 17.
Sammy Whammy opened the action with a raise to 20,000 from early position and was called by Cody Jaeschke, who was in the cutoff. Jake Schumacher three-bet all in out of the small blind and action folded around to Jaeschke, who decided to call. Action was held up due to the all-in-and-call situation.
Meanwhile, Everett Carlton and Nghia Le got all in on an adjacent table as well and it was time for both runouts to happen. Carlton and Le both had ace-king and chopped the pot as the real action was happening between Jaeschke and Schumacher.
Jake Schumacher:
Cody Jaeschke:
Jaeschke obliterated the board as it ran out , giving him a flush by the turn and leaving Schumacher to claim the unfortunate title of Bubble Boy.
"3 Putts" Le has also since won another massive pot as the dust has settled with in-the-money play and now finds himself with around 410,000 in chips, putting him near the top of the leader board as the tournament has made its way into the money.
