Rybin Makes A Move, Gets Through

Alexey Rybin moved all-in preflop for 1,860,000 and it got passed to the other short stack, Giuseppe Diep who thought for a minute before staring at Rybin.

The Russian was content to sit back and gave Diep a wink which elicited a few laughs in the audience. Diep folded as did Boeree and Pettersson in the blinds and Rybin moved back over the two million mark.

Piper is a poker professional from London. This is his first EPT but not his first big tournament – he competed in several WSOP side events last summer as well as WSOPE side events in London last year. He failed to cash in those events but won ￡15,000 in a recent tourney at the International Club in London two weeks ago. He said: “Whatever happens at San Remo from now on, I’ll be delighted. I haven’t had a single bad beat, all my hands have held up and I’ve had action on most of them.”

Toni has just finished school and is currently playing poker full time. This is his first ever live event which he is attending with his father. The pair are planning to buy a car here in Italy to ensure they can get home! Toni is also considering playing next week’s EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo as well. His favourite game is Pot Limit Omaha.

Boeree is a professional poker player, TV presenter and winner of the European Ladies Championships in 2008. Liv studied astrophysics in Manchester – as did fellow Brit Michael Piper – and was introduced to poker when she became one of five contestants in a reality TV show about poker. Following that experience, she studied studying poker intensely and has since notched up several tournament wins and final tables around the world, including the European Ladies Championships in May 2008. As of January 2010 she had live tournament cashes exceeding $230,000. In her spare time, Liv is a huge heavy metal fan, accomplished rock guitarist and talented table football player.

Carlsson has been playing poker for around three years, mainly online but he’s also competed at three PokerStars Caribbean Adventure events in the Bahamas and around ten EPT events. He came 25th at EPT Prague for €12,800 and also min-cashed in London. His best result before making the EPT San Remo final was sixth place in the $5,000 side event at the 2009 PCA for $57,200.

Gueorguiev is a familiar figure on the EPT circuit and has already enjoyed some success including a fourth place finish at EPT Warsaw in 2008 for €87,973. In April 2009, he had the biggest cash of his career when he came fourth at the Irish Open for €163,300. He also won a WPT side event in Barcelona last June for €52,300 and cashed in the €1,000 EPT Barcelona side event in September. A former backgammon player, Gueorguiev now plays poker full time and his lifetime tournament winnings total more than $570,000.
