Another 12 levels of play are in the books at 888poker LIVE Bucharest, where a trio of 888poker Ambassadors joined the field on Day 1b of the €560 Main Event.

A total of 69 new entries were recorded, bringing the tournament total to 179 over the first two flights at 888poker Room Bucharest. Thursday’s 27 survivors will join the 34 players from Day 1a, with two more opening flights to come on Friday, March 22.

Everyone will be chasing a piece of the €200,000 prize pool when the field combines for Day 2 on Saturday, March 23, but there is plenty of action to play out before then.

For the second straight day, Romanians took control of the leaderboard with Stefan Toderita taking top spot after bagging 369,000 chips. That currently sits second overall after Ran Shahar amassed 427,500 chips on Day 1a.

The chip lead changed hands several times over the last few hours of the night, with Andrei Miron, Stefan Gheorghe and 2023 CNP 888 National Champion Pedro Gonzalez all holding the advantage through the later levels. Alexandru Lupuleac made a late charge to round out the top five spots.

Lucia Navarro also found a bag at the end of the night, carrying 105,500 into Day 2. Fellow Ambassador Ian Simpson was not as fortunate, busting after the final break of the night. Simpson told PokerNews that he will be back on Friday to take another shot at Main Event glory.

Action was heads up to the A?4?K? flop, where Sebastian Ionita checked from the big blind. Carmen Zainescu fired a bet of 3,500 in the hijack and Ionita made the call.

The K? turn saw Ionita check-call another bet from Zainescu, this time for 5,000. One last check from Ionita on the 8? river was met with a bet of 15,000 from Zainescu.

Ionita took some time before making the call, and Zainescu showed Q?6? for a flush. Ionita mucked as the chips were sent to his left.

Sebastian Ionita opened from middle position before Itai Laufer slid out a three-bet in the hijack. Alexandru Tudor then moved all in for his last 19,500 in the big blind, with Ionita folding and Laufer making the call.

Alexandru Tudor: 10?10? All in
Itai Laufer: A?A?

The 9?5?J? flop was no help to Tudor, but the 10? turn certainly was. Laufer's aces could not connect on the Q? river, as Tudor cracked aces to double up.

Saliba Strikes Back

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Vivian Saliba
Vivian Saliba

Vivian Saliba and Alexandru Matei battled again, a short time after Matei took much of Saliba's stack.

Matei checked the river from the small blind on the completed 10?4?3?A?J? runout before Saliba slid out a bet of 15,000.

After taking a moment, Matei tossed in the call and was given the bad news. Saliba showed 3?3? for a flopped set of threes, while Matei could only show A?K? for a pair of aces.

Matei Calls Saliba's Bluff

Alexandru Matei
Alexandru Matei

Vivian Saliba opened to 3,000 in the hijack and was quickly three-bet to 7,100 by Alexandru Matei on her left. Saliba called to the J?K?A? flop.

Saliba checked to Matei, who continued for 3,500 and the call was made. Both players then checked the 2? turn. After the dealer revealed the 5? river, Saliba bet enough to cover Alexandru Matei's stack of around 38,000

Matei went into the tank contemplating a decision, taking a few minutes before making the call.

Saliba tapped the table as she showed 10?10? for a pair of tens. Matei then turned over A?Q? for top pair, good enough to double his stack and leave Saliba short.

Veaceslav Harinton
Veaceslav Harinton

Stefan Toma opened to 1,200 from the hijack and found calls from Veaceslav Hariton in the cutoff and Vivian Saliba in the small blind. Alexandru Matei then three-bet to 4,000 in the big blind, with Hariton and Saliba coming along.

"Sorry for the bad beat" said Saliba, as the dealer collected the chips and turned over the 5?4?5? flop. Saliba checked to Matei, who fired 3,500 into the middle. Hariton quickly raised to 10,000 and Saliba took some time before making the call.

Action was back on Matei, who said, "Now I'm a bit confused," before deciding to get out of the way. The 8? turn saw Saliba take some time to make her next decision.

Hariton then bet out of turn, sliding out 15,000. Saliba took another minute before making the call. Both players then checked the Q? river.

Hariton showed 9?9? for two pair, taking down a nice pot as Saliba mucked.
