Poker is a game with many variations, each with its own set of rules. However, most poker games follow a similar structure and have a set of common rules.

What are the Basic Rules of Poker?

While there are many variations of poker, the basic rules usually remain the same:
Poker Hand Rankings: Regardless of the poker variant, the hand rankings are generally the same. From highest to lowest, the rankings are: Royal Flush, Straight Flush, Four of a Kind, Full House, Flush, Straight, Three of a Kind, Two Pair, One Pair, High Card.
Betting Rounds: Most poker games have a series of betting rounds. The number and order of these rounds depend on the specific variant.
The Showdown: After the final betting round, if more than one player remains, there is a showdown. The player with the highest-ranking hand wins the pot.
Blinds and Antes: Many poker games use blinds and/or antes to initiate betting. Blinds are forced bets made by one or two players to the left of the dealer. Antes are smaller forced bets made by all players.

Example of Poker Rules

For instance, in Texas Hold'em, each player is dealt two private cards, and five community cards are dealt face-up on the "board". Players must make the best five-card hand using any combination of their private cards and the community cards.

In Omaha, each player is dealt four private cards, and five community cards are dealt face-up on the "board". Players must make the best five-card hand using exactly two of their private cards and three of the community cards.
