Nick Petrangelo x Phil Ivey

Five years and 11 Triton Poker stops later, Nick Petrangelo can finally call himself a Triton Champion after getting over the line at the Montenegro High Roller Series.

The battleground this time around was Event #10: $50,000 NLH Turbo, where 53 entries tried their luck at a shot at glory. Those players were competing for the lion's share of the $2,650,000 prize pool, where $775,000 awaited the victor.

Petrangelo was the man to seize the first-place prize, last defeating Lewis Spencer, who earned $556,000 for his silver medal finish.

How Petrangelo Got It Done

With ten remaining, Petrangelo flipped out Artur Martirosian to burst the money and final table. As the field convened on one table, Petrangelo had the chip lead, with Daniel Dvoress and Leon Sturm propping up the rest of the pack with their ten-big blind stack.

Sturm had a hot start, picking up aces to double through Isaac Haxton and then found pocket tens to see off the Big Slick of Dvoress, who collected the $77,000 min-cash. Next to depart was Steve O'Dwyer, who's pocket queens remained best until Spencer paired his ace on the river to down the Irishman.

Sturm was the next player to feel pain on the river as Maher Nouira's pocket sixes made a set on the final card of the runout to usurp the German prodigy's jacks. Petrangelo bagged his first scalp of the FT, ousting Haxton with a superior ace. Nouira jammed into Spencer's aces before Petrangelo completed his hattrick of eliminations, busting David Yan and Dylan Linde with inferior holdings.

Heads-up consisted of one solitary hand. In a limped pot to the J?7?5? flop, Petrangelo check-called a bet with his Q?3?. On the K? turn, Spencer jammed with his 8?5? as the shorter stack only to see he was drawing dead, handing Petrangelo his maiden Triton triumph.

This one doesnt count...Obviously I want to win one of the Mains or the Invitational or the $200Ks. Petrangelo somewhat joked to the media after the win. Obviously, this is great, and Im happy. Id like to win one of the big ones before Im done.
