EPT Cyprus

PokerStars is preparing for a Mediterranean adventure as the European Poker Tour touches down in Cyprus for the first time later this week.

The poker extravaganza is pencilled in from Wednesday, October 11, until Sunday, October 22 2023, at the Merit Royal Hotel Casino & Spa and a jam-packed schedule is on the cards.

EPT Cyprus kicks off with a $1,100 NLH Freezeout and is followed by the $10,200 Mystery Bounty, which the PokerNews live reporting team will have boots on the ground for. Alongside the fantastic tournaments, a plethora of player activities are planned, such as jeep safaris and island boat trips, which should all culminate in a positive debut for the rapidly growing poker hot spot.

EPT Cyprus also marks the penultimate stop for the 2023 season, and while next year's destinations are yet to be announced, PokerNews thought it'd be fun to suggest some major cities as possible first-time hosts for 2024 that we think you'll love.

Cardiff, Wales

Cardiff Castle
Cardiff Castle

Cardiff, the capital of Wales, may not be the first city that comes to mind when you think of poker, but it has a thriving poker scene and a lot to offer EPT players and fans.

  • Welcoming Atmosphere: The people of Cardiff are renowned for their friendliness, which would create a warm and inviting atmosphere for poker enthusiasts from all around Europe.
  • Cardiff Bay: The stunning Cardiff Bay area provides a breathtaking backdrop for the EPT. With its modern architecture, waterfront views, and an array of restaurants and bars, it offers the perfect setting for post-game relaxation.
  • Local Poker Scene: Cardiff boasts a vibrant poker scene with several casinos and poker rooms, making it an ideal place for players to practice and prepare for the tournament.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Adriatic," is a city that oozes historical charm and beauty, making it an attractive location for an EPT event.

  • Historical Elegance: Dubrovnik's UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town is a marvel of historical architecture, providing a unique and memorable setting for poker tournaments. Imagine playing poker in the shadow of ancient city walls or within the grandeur of historic palaces.
  • Scenic Coastline: The Adriatic coastline surrounding Dubrovnik offers stunning views and pristine beaches for players and spectators to enjoy during their downtime.
  • Croatia's Poker Scene: Croatia has been steadily growing as a poker destination, and hosting an EPT event in Dubrovnik would elevate the country's status on the European poker map.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Amsterdam
Amsterdam

Amsterdam, famous for its picturesque canals, historic architecture, and vibrant nightlife, would also be a fantastic choice for the PokerStars EPT.

  • Venue: The city boasts excellent convention centres and hotels that could serve as venues for the tournament. The combination of modern facilities and Amsterdam's charm would ensure a memorable event.
  • Culture and Entertainment: Amsterdam offers a wide range of cultural attractions, including world-class museums, historic sites, and a lively arts scene. Players can unwind by exploring the city's unique character.
  • Nightlife: After a long day at the poker tables, participants can experience Amsterdam's legendary nightlife, from cosy bars to world-famous clubs, ensuring they have a great time even after the cards are put away.

While Cardiff, Dubrovnik, and Amsterdam may not be the traditional destinations, they each offer a unique blend of culture, natural beauty, and a growing poker scene that could make them standout choices for future events. These cities have the potential to create unforgettable experiences for players and fans alike, adding new chapters to the rich history of the EPT.
