WCOOP 2020 Day 23: Brummelhuis, Nevanlinna Among Winners, Main Events in the Money

The 2020 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) at PokerStars is in its final stages and action is starting to get tense in the Main Events. All six Main Events are deep into the money, with $1,499,942 awaiting the 2020 WCOOP H Main Event champion, and unofficial title as poker's online world champion, on Wednesday night.

Besides the action in the flagship events, there were several winners crowned in several tournaments that originally kicked off on Sunday. Among them were Jussi "calvin7v" Nevanlinna, who won a career fifth WCOOP title in WCOOP-69-M: $1,050 8-Game. The High edition of the 8-Game was won by Ra��lGonzalez, who defeated Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick heads-up.

Michiel "utreg" Brummelhuis (lead photo), a former November Niner, topped a 1,185-player field inthe High edition of the Sunday Warm-Up. Brummelhuis received a massive payday of $165,433 for his accomplishment.

Mulder and Bruschi Among Big Stacks After Day 2 of the WCOOP-72-H: $5,200 Main Event

The late registration for the flagship event of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) 2020 remained open until five minutes prior to the restart and an additional 280 entries boosted the field of WCOOP-72-H: $5,200 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event] significantly.

This may have narrowly missed covering the $10,000,000 guarantee but the 1,436 unique players and 541 re-entries created a field of 1,977 entries.

Day 2 of the pinnacle tournament of the festival was slated to play down to the final nine tables and 71 contenders survived the minefields of the post-bubble carnage to have a shot at the top prize of $1,499,942.

Best-positioned to reach the nine-handed final table the following day is Russia's "rzr1st" who reigns atop the leaderboard with a massive stack of 29,925,402. There is already a gap to the next trio which is within two blinds including "jokkee_apart" (19,635,359), Denys "SantaZzz" Chufarin (19,539,620), and Teun "tinnoemulder" Mulder (19,478,439).

Further notables in the overnight top ten include Renan "Internett93o" Bruschi (15,060,503), and "Spotzilla666" (15,006,741) whereas well-known poker pros such as Robin "robinho" Ylitalo (10,230,679), Viktor "papan9_p$" Ustimov (9,355,572), Sergio "zcedrick" Aido (9,128,302), and Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson (8,863,571) follow in close proximity.

Oliver in Top Five of the PokerStars WCOOP-72-M: $530 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event] with "Pentakilator" in the Lead

After 8.5 hours of play on Day 2, the PokerStars WCOOP-72-M: $530 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event] has come to an end with 80 players making it through to Day 3. Day 1 attracted 6,500 entries and before the start of the day, another 605 entries were collected to get to 7,105 in total to create a prize pool of $3,552,500 which smashed the original $2,000,000 guarantee which was set.

Poland's "Pentakilator" claimed the chip lead in the final hand of the night when they doubled through Igor "Garrin4e" Yaroshevskyy with the flopped two pair when the latter tried to bluff the former off the hand. "Pentakilator" will come back for Day 3 with 28,139,926 in chips which will be worth 113 big blinds. They are followed in the top five by "S.N.I.N.1" (22,901,193), "ZAR84" (20,462,671), "shusiu11" (18,830,047), and a more familiar name and face to the poker world: Chris "ImDaNuts" Oliver virtually bagged 18,593,495 for Day 3.

But there are many more notable players left, Daniel "Allanon85" Drescher, Saymon "Saymon9" Nascimento, Mats "Matsull" Ullereng, Evan "PURPLE"K"99" Parkes, Day 1 chip leader Guilherme "Guiz?oo_" Carmo, Victor "vituhu3" Macedo, Henrique "Galochina10" Coutinho, and Alexis "J0hnny_Dr@m@" Zervos have all bagged an above average stack.

Andras Nemeth Gunning for Two Big PLO Titles this Series

Andras Nemeth was known as one of the more accomplished players to fail to capture a PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker title coming into the 2020 series, but he's trying to remedy that in a big way by winning not one, not two, but three titles.

He's already taken down WCOOP-37-H: $5,200 PLO [6-Max, High Roller], as well as a $530 no-limit hold'em event, and he's now at the final table of WCOOP-73-H: $10,300 PLO [6-Max, Main Event]. Furthermore, he's sitting in great shape stack-wise, second only to Ola "Odd_Oddsen" Amundsgard, down by only a few big blinds.

An opponent from Nemeth's $5K PLO win, Laszlo "omaha4rollz" Bujtas has also made the final table after a swingy day. He's one of the better known Omaha players out in the online streets and has been racking up tons of big cashes in tournaments of all sorts for the past couple of years.

Four yet-to-be unmasked screen names will join them on Tuesday's final table: "d.apollo777," "jedimaster82," and "rObetOblancO." These seven are all that remain from a field of 135 that just nudged past the guarantee of $1.25M.

"Ra��lGonzalez" Defeats Chidwick & Vieira in WCOOP-69-H: $10,300 8-Game [High Roller]

High-stakes regular "Ra��lGonzalez" showed off his mixed game talents in WCOOP-69-H: $10,300 8-Game [High Roller]. winning $235,531 after defeating a 67-player field. The event began back on Saturday and cut to the final day after the money was reached with seven players remaining.

The German, notable for some epic high stakes cash game clashes against Viktor "Isildur1" Blom" with 2-7 Triple Draw and 8-Game stakes going up as high as $1,000/$2,000, defeated GPI's #3 Stephen "stevie444".Chidwick heads-up, with the latter claiming $156,001 out of the $670,000 total prize pool.

Joao "Naza114" Vieira completed the podium and added $103,325 to his bankroll. Mike "goleafsgoeh" Leah finished fifth, while start-of-the-day chip leader Andrew "ClockWyze" Pantling departed in sixth place despite being in the lead until shortly before his elimination.

WCOOP Day 23 Results

In addition to "Ra��lGonzalez's win in the high edition of the 8-Game, eight more winners were crowned on Monday night. Jussi "calvin7v" Nevanlinna captured a career fifth WCOOP title, as well as second of the series. Nevanlinna won the Player of the Series leaderboard last year and once again showcases why's he's considered among the best tournament players on the circuit.

Michiel "utreg" Brummelhuis captured the title in WCOOP 71-H: $1,050 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO, Freezeout, Sunday Warm-Up SE] where a massive first-place bounty of $80,076 resulted in a total prize of $165,433. The Dutchman scored one of the biggest online victories of his career and the 11th title for The Netherlands this series.
