Guillaume Volatile38 Diaz had been chasing a Winamax Series title ever since joining Team Winamax four years ago. He finally got one, winning the Winamax Series 1,000 High Roller title yesterday after almost eight hours of play.

Needless to say, Diaz probably didn't envision winning a title in quite this way from over 26,000 feet above sea level, using Wi-Fi on a plane while flying over Kazakhstan!

Diaz was on his way to Zurich from the PokerStars Championship Macau when he joined the online tournament. Eventually Diaz found himself making a deep run along with Romain Lewis, another passenger on his flight. The two even crossed paths at one point, meeting at the same table before Lewis was knocked out.

Diaz proceeded to eliminate his opponents one by one, all the while keeping his fans in the loop via Facebook Live.

Upon reaching heads-up, Diaz struck a deal with his opponent Denilo93 that saw them dividing up most of the almost 124,000 left while leaving 8,000 aside for which to play. Eventually Diaz triumphed, earning a 73,188 total prize (worth just under $78,000 USD) for topping the 367-entry field.

Thank you so much for the support... and for all the messages I received, Diaz said. This evening was definitely crazy and receiving so many messages made it all the more enjoyable. Do not forget: The important thing in poker is not the cards, its the airline you choose.

In the January 2016 Winamax Series, Diaz had some success multi-tabling in Morocco. He finished fourth in the 50 Six-Max, which played out over two days and guaranteed 80,000. He won 7,000, but obviously he was just getting started.
