UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up

The headlines at UK & Ireland PokerNews this week are dominated by a booming live poker scene, with the UKIPT Edinburgh Main Event crwoning its champion, the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour announcing it's 2016 schedule, and the 2015 GUKPT Grand Final looking set to break records. Let's find out more.

49,660. That is the tidy sum that Spain's David Gomez walked away with after winning the 2015 UKIPT Edinburgh Main Event. Gomez finished Day 1b as the tournament's chip leader, built on that impressive start to top Day 2 and completed a hat trick by winning all of the chip in play on Day 3.

It was an exciting tournament from start-to-finish and ended in spectacular fashion. Click the link to find out how.

Grosvenor Casinos this week released details for the coming year including dates and stops on the GUKPT circuit, which is now in its 10th season. The current season hasn't yet finished as the 400,000 guaranteed Grand Final is in-running in London as this article is being typed.

Day 1a took place on Thursday afternoon and saw 127 players buy in for 2,000+125. Should 171 players turn out for Friday's Day 1b, it will break the record for the richest GUKPT Grand Final in history, beating the 594,000 set in the inaugural season.

The online poker world was also busy again this week where "buriedatsea" kept up the UK's impressive record in the Sunday Million when he finished fourth for a massive score of $113,232.22 after a four-way chop. Possibly more impressive that that one-off score was Ben "BenFaz" Farrell's quartet of victories, including the Sunday Storm where he outlasted 31,260 opponents, results that have seen him enter the UK online poker rankings top 20 for the first time and soar to a career-best 151st in the world.

Other top stories this week included Chris Moorman's excellent "Moorman's Book of Poker" being turned into a series of videos, Playtech pulling out of their acquisitions of Plus500 and Ava Trade, and a British teenager being handed a 12-month suspended jail term for a cyber attack on an online gaming site.
