HPO Tunica

For the past week, the Hollywood Poker Open (HPO), which is in its third season, has been hosting a dozen "featured events" at the Hollywood Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. On Saturday, March 6 at 12:00 p.m. local time, the stop will culminate with a two-day $1,115 HPO Regional Main Event.

The stop has already proved to be an interesting one. HPO Ambassador and 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Chris Moneymaker traveled to nearby Memphis to do the media rounds, while both Barry Schultz and Ken Ervin, who both won two featured events in Tunica, have been duking it out on the stop's leader board. All three of those men are expected to be in the Main Event, and of course PokerNews will be keeping an eye on them in the live blog, which you can find in out Live Reporting Section.

"Tunica has been a staple on the tournament poker circuit for many years, generating big fields and large prize pools. Couple that with the momentum gained thanks to the largest Hollywood Poker Open Regional to date in Toledo, and this is a highly-anticipated event," said PokerNews Editor in Chief Donnie Peters. "PokerNews is extremely excited to witness the growth of the HPO as it continues to provide players with what they want from a poker series."

As always, the PokerNews will offer the MyStack app, which allows players to update their chip counts and tournament progress in real time, for the Main Event. The app can be used in any event featuring PokerNews' Live Reporting services, so to download the app for free, click here.

Located just 35 miles south of Memphis, Tenn., Hollywood Casino Tunica offers award-winning service and 54,000 square feet of action-packed gaming, not to mention a 494-room luxury hotel and first-class restaurants. As they say: "you'll discover a new level of gaming and entertainment."

Last year, the HPO Tunica saw Toby Mathews top both Jonathan Taylor (runner-up) and Moneymaker (third place) to win the title, a $15,040 payday, and a $2,500 seat into the season-ending championship at the M Resort Casino Spa in Las Vegas.

The third stop of the season comes on the heels of two very successful events. Late last year, the Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg Main Event attracted a record-setting HPO field of 207 players and saw Jesse McEuen emerge victorious to capture the $49,676 first-place prize, and then earlier this month Charles Maxcy took down the HPO Toledo after a six-way deal.
