UK & Ireland PokerNews Round-Up: Tournament Successes and Climbing the Rankings
Each week we take a look at the most popular stories from the world of UK & Ireland PokerNews and display them here in one handy bite-sized article. Sit down, kick back, and enjoy this recap of the past seven days.
The week got off to an exciting start thanks in part to the European Poker Tour London festival coming to a thrilling conclusion. Although the Main Event and High Roller had a handful of Brits at the final table, sadly none of them managed to emerge victorious.
A few miles down the road from the EPT London festivities was the 2014 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Luton Main Event. Some of the UK's biggest poker names were in attendance and they were all outlasted by cash game guru Adam Reynolds.
Across the Irish Sea, in Dublin to be exact, Chris Pyke secured a career-best score of 46,211 after he bested a 1,656-strong field in the Boylepoker IPO Dublin Main Event. Pyke's prize money could have been more substantial had there not been a five-handed chop.
While Reynolds and Pyke were busy winning pot after pot in the live arena, their fellow British and Irish grinders were grinding online in the various major Sunday tournaments. Once morning had broken, there were three Englishmen who had scooped a major, including Rick Trigg more on him later.
It seemed that every day a new poker festival, both live and online, was unveiled. Paddy Power Poker are set to run a 100,000 guaranteed event in Manchester, online 3D poker site PKR are hosting their annual Oktoberfest goodness, the GUKPT set the dates for its 2015 tour, and PokerStars delighted low-stakes heroes around the world by announcing that MicroMillions 9 features $5 million in guarantees. If we weren't too busy writing all of this for you, we'd be planning our schedules to get in on the action!
Remember we mentioned Rick Trigg winning a Sunday major? Well, on the back of that impressive result he climbed into second place in the UK and 10th in the worldwide online poker rankings.
There was good news too for 2014 World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific Main Event runner-up Jack Salter, who is now ranked 30th in the world by the Global Poker Index, his loftiest position to date.
Be sure to tune back in next week for news from the UK and Ireland front.
