PokerNews Live Reporting This Weekend's Mid-States Poker Tour Majestic Star Casino
Season 5 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) continues on Friday with Day 1a of a $200,000 guarantee $1,100 buy-in Main Event from Majestic Star Casino in Gary, Indiana, and the PokerNews Live Reporting team will be on hand to bring you the action all weekend long.
We have been putting the word out about the MSPT since we signed on with them and have been receiving good feedback on Majestic Star hosting this event, Majestic Star poker room manager Darrell Sangster previously told PokerNews. We have had many calls about the event. So there has been a general buzz about this MSPT event.
Two players that are confirmed to be in attendance are Brandon Meyers and PokerNews' own Chad Holloway. Meyers recently finished as the Day 1a chip leader at the MSPT Meskwaki in Tama, Iowa, a tournament that attracted 368 runners. Meyers went on to finish 15th in that tournament, while Jonathan Olson defeated Mike Holm in heads-up play to capture the $95,741 first-place prize. Holm will also be attending the MSPT Majestic Star event.
As for Holloway, he is a senior editor for PokerNews.com and a World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner. Holloway won the 2013 WSOP Casino Employees event for $84,915 and a bracelet, and he will be playing in his second MSPT event of the season.
I got the chance to play the MSPT event in Las Vegas over the summer, but unfortunately I was unable to get anything going, said Holloway, who navigated a field of 305 entrants to make the final table of the MSPT Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells last November, ultimately finishing in fifth place for $14,718. I look forward to returning to the Midwest and hopefully making my second MSPT final table. If I happen to bust, I hear Chante Moore is in town Friday night, so I can always go see the show.

The MSPT has already hosted a stop at Majestic Star in its fifth season. Back in March, Ken Baime of Glenview, Illinois topped a field of 301 players to win the $77,681 first-place prize in the inaugural MSPT Majestic Star.
Bryan Mileski and the MSPT staff are great. They were always present and very accessible. They take their job very seriously, run a great tournament, and were constantly hustling all over the place, Baime told PokerNews after his win. He then went on to add, I also really like the players in this tournament. One of the goals of the MSPT is to be accessible to recreational players and players with jobs. So, while the tournament had its share of pros and semi-pros, there were also a number of people with jobs. So, even though it was an $1,100 buy-in tournament, the general vibe was very relaxed and fun.
The Main Event will be held over three days beginning Friday evening with Day 1a at 4 p.m. Day 1a will play 14 levels. Saturday's Day 1b will also start at 4 p.m. and play 14 levels. Players who advance from Day 1a are not eligible to play in Day 1b. The remaining players from each flight will combine on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. and play until a champion is crowned. The Main Event final table will be broadcast live (15-minute delay) worldwide using RFID technology allowing all viewers to see the hole cards.
