The World Championship of Online Poker Starts Next Week

It's Christmas time for all of you online grinders as Pokerstars gets ready to kick off the latest edition of its World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP). Featuring 45 events and a total prize-pool guarantee of $40 million, those types of numbers usually bode well for some beefy first-prize money.

This year's WCOOP offers three high-roller events that will undoubtedly bring out the game's elite thanks to the ballooned buy-in. The high-roller events include a $2 million guaranteed No-Limit event on September 6th, an $800,000 guaranteed No-Limit Match Play event on September 13th, and a $1 million guaranteed H.O.R.S.E tournament on September 20th.

As with previous years, the WCOOP offers something for all types of players including No-Limit, Razz, Pot-Limit Omaha, Fixed-Limit Hold'em, 8-Game Mix, Pot-Limit Hold'em, Badugi, Omaha Hi-Lo, Fixed-Limit Omaha
Fixed-Limit Triple Draw, H.O.R.S.E, 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo, Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, and the newly introduced No-Limit Omaha.

Last year, PokerStars awarded $39,958,000 in prize money for players through 33 events. The biggest winner was "ckingusc" after he dragged the Main Event championship and the $1,265,432 first-place prize.

A number of top players are expected to participate including Team Pokerstars players Daniel Negreanu, Chris Moneymaker, Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Rousso and Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier.

Although Pokerstars offers action to numerous countries worldwide, the players in the U.S. have dominated the action, landing 535 final-table appearances, $59,472,430.22 in earnings and 11,094 cashes.
