Phil Ivey Wins Close to $1 Million - The Online Railbird Report Vol. 24 0001

With the World Series of Poker in the rearview mirror, a busy week of online high stakes poker produced several big winners. Though big names such as Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius all logged impressive six-figure profits, it wasRichard Ashby and Cole South having the best weeks of all, pocketing more than seven figures in winnings. On the flip side, Tom durrrr Dwan and last weeks big winner Niki Jedlicka both hit big down swings, down over seven figures.

Ashby Lead the Way in PLO

There was plenty going on at the $200/400 PLO tables on Full Tilt. Many online cash-game regulars got in on the action, but Richard Ashby came out on top by finishing just under $1.1 million in the black. A key hand for Ashby occurred against Di Urindanger Dang and Gus Hansen. Under the gun, Dang raised to $1,200 and Ashby called from the cutoff, but Hansen popped it to $5,750 on the button. Dang reraised to $19,400 and Ashby kept up the raising theme, making it $64,900. Hansen called and Dang went all in for the $72,000 he started the hand with. Ashby and Hansen called, bringing a flop of K? K? 7?. Ashby shoved for his remaining $25,395 and Hansen called.

The hands:

Hansen: K?9?8?6?

Ashby: A?A?5?2?

Dang: A?Q?J?7?

Gus was well out in front with trip kings, but the turn was the 3? and gave Ashby extra outs to a flush. The J? landed on the river and gave Ashby the winning hand, shipping the $268,232 pot in his direction.

Another hand between the same three players took place that also was won by Richard Ashby. After a series of raises pre-flop, Ashby was all in for $49,970 with A?A?7?7? against Dangs A?K?J?10? and Hansens 8?7?5?4?. The flop came down 2? Q? K?, giving Dang top pair and straight draws. However, the turn and river ran out 2? 2? giving Ashby deuces full of aces and the roughly $150,000 pot.

South Heading North

Cole South enjoyed a late-week surge on Friday by way of some big wins against Gus Hansen at $200/400 PLO on Full Tilt. The biggest hand between the two consisted of each committing $85.870 before a flop of 8? 2? 9? fell. Hansen went all in for $137,117 and was insta-called by South, tabling A?Q?9?8? for top two pair, ahead of Hansens A?A?K?Q?. The turn was the J? while the river delivered the 5?, giving South the nut flush and the $446,583 pot.

The second of Souths big wins against Gus came when the table was six-handed. Chau Giang opened the action with a raise to $1,600 from the hijack. Gus Hansen called in the cutoff as did South on the button. The flop rolled out 9? 3? 7? and Giang checked, leading to Hansen betting $5,820. South was the lone caller as the 9? would hit the turn. Hansen fired $14,000 into the middle and South called. The river delivered the 10? and Hansen continued to bring the heat, betting $45,460. South raised to $146,800 and Hansen called all in for $111,000. South revealed 10?9?6?5? for nines full of tens, collecting the $268,000 pot.

Ivey Continues to Roll

For the first time since the end of the WSOP, November Nine member Phil Ivey returned to the online poker scene for significant action. It was a successful return for Ivey, up nearly $1 million for the week. In a hand at $300/600 PLO, Richard Ashby folded on the button and Ivey raised to $2,100 in the small blind. Di Urindanger Dang made it $6,600 to go from the big blind and Ivey called, bringing out a flop 7? 4? 8?. Ivey led out $11,400 and Dang raised to $31,200, prompting Ivey to make it $107,100. Dang went all in for roughly $163,000 and Ivey called all in for a little less with the nuts, 10?9?6?5?. He had cards to fade, however, as Dang tabled 6?A?A?K?. The turn and river fell a safe J? 2? for Ivey as he raked in the nearly $250,000 pot.

Another big pot went Phil Iveys way at $300/600 PLO. The table was six-handed and Phil OMGClayAiken Galfond limped in under the gun. Brian tsarrast Rast raised to $3,300 in the cutoff and Ivey called on the button, as did Galfond. The flop came down 10? A? 3? and Galfond checked. Rast bet $7,750 and only Ivey called, landing the 5? on fourth street. Rast bet the pot of $26,900 and Ivey raised to $107,600, just covering Rast. A call from Rast revealed A?10?Q?7? for top two pair and a flush draw while Ivey showed 10?10?K?9? for a set. Fifth street was the K? as Ivey dodged the outs to win the nearly $230,000 pot.
