Crazy Hand Sees Volper Take the Chip Lead
Quite the hand developed in the last hand before the break. It happened on a flop with 9,500 in the middle. Raul Paez was in the small blind and check-called a bet of 6,000 from Nikolay Volper in the big. The turn saw Paez check once again, but this time he check-raised to 48,400 after Volper had bet 9,000.
Volper thought for a bit and then said, "I call." He proceeded to turn over his cards () even though he had about 17,000 behind. Volper was issued a one-round penalty for exposing his cards and had to play the hand out face up.
When the spiked on the river and Volper filled up, he smiled and moved all in. Paez was speechless. He just sat there quietly and showed his hand . He had the nuts on the turn and continued to stare at the board for about 15 seconds before folding his hand.
