Hand #70 - Dennis Phillips

Don't count Phillips out just yet.
Don't count Phillips out just yet.
Peter Eastgate has the button in Seat 9. Chino Rheem is the first player to enter the pot, raising to 1 million straight. Dennis Phillips, sitting in the small blind, makes the call only to have Ylon Schwartz squeeze him with a reraise to 4.4 million.

Rheem turns around to his supporters behind him and says something, but it's inaudible from our side of the stage. He tanks for about a minute and a half before folding, bringing the action back to Dennis Phillips, decked out in his autographed St. Louis Cardinals cap and white button-down shirt.

Phillips takes about a minute before announcing he's all in for 10.05 million. Schwartz quickly calls. The Dennis Phillips Army is on its feet, and it's bad news for their chosen champion.

Phillips: {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}
Schwartz: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

Phillips is vigorously rubbing his lucky coin. He and Schwartz are both out of their seats. Phillips offers Schwartz a good luck handshake prior to the flop. Schwartz accepts it, then buries his face behind his hands, unable to watch the flop.

{4-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {J-Clubs}

The Dennis Phillips Army cheers and Phillips let loose a fist pump -- he's paired his ace to take the lead in the hand. When the turn comes {6-Spades}, there's only one card in the deck that can prevent Phillips from doubling up. The river is not the {Q-Diamonds}; it's the {3-Hearts}, and if the Dennis Phillips army exploded on the flop, they let out an absolute roar with the hand and the pot secure.

Phillips started the day with 24 million, took some early hits to drop down to about 6 million, but has come rocketing back. He's now at 21.45 million. Schwartz takes a hit to just less than 21 million.
