Welcome to the 2024 World Series of Poker and Day 2 of Event #1: $5,000 Champions Reunion which will play out today with the 99 survivors heading to the Horseshoe Grand Ballroom at 12 p.m. to make a run at the final table. A total of 493 entries were recorded in the opening event of the 2024 WSOP with a plethora of the globe's poker elite putting their skills to the test in their pursuit of the first bracelet on offer this year.

Former Main Event champion Qui Nguyen leads the way after he bagged up an impressive 663,000 chips at the end of Day 1. China's Xiaohu Liu sits in second with 661,000 chips, just a fraction behind the chip leader, and Asher Conniff rounds out the top three spots with a stack of 641,000.

The initial objective for the remaining players is to make it into the money and with 74 places being paid it means that 25 of the Day 1 survivors will leave empty-handed. A min-cash of $9,141 awaits those fortunate enough to make the money, but all eyes will be firmly locked on the top prize of $408,468. There are still seven Main Event winners in the field, meaning an additional $10,000 Main Event buy-in bounty will be claimed by whoever manages to eliminate Dan Harrington, Jamie Gold, Daniel Weinman, Huck Seed, Greg Merson, Joe McKeehen, and the aforementioned Nguyen.

The plan today is to play through ten 60-minute levels with the blinds resuming at Level 16 (4,000/8,000/8,000) and the average stack sitting at just shy of 250,000 (31 big blinds).

As always, stay tuned to PokerNews to keep up to date with all of the latest action on the felt and to see who can survive the onslaught and make it into Day 3.
