Shanmukha Meruga Eliminated in 5th Place ($23,670)

Level 25
Shanmukha Meruga
Shanmukha Meruga

Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Shanmukha Meruga was all-in for 60,000, exactly enough to cover the big blind and the ante. Richard Bai came along from the next seat over while Pearce Arnold and Denis Strebkov called from the button and small blind, respectively.

The flop came {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and Strebkov bet 45,000. Bai called and Arnold folded.

The turn was {9-Spades} and Strebkov checked. Bai bet 100,000 and Strebkov folded to leave Bai alone with Meruga.

Meruga turned over {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} for a pair of kings, but Bai had {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for tens full of nines. The river was {2-Hearts} and no help to keep Meruga from being eliminated in fifth place for $23,670.

Strebkov and Wong Battle With Their Big Stacks

Level 25

No-Limit Hold'em

Denis Strekov raised to 70,000 in the cutoff and was called in the big blind by Jerry Wong.

On a flop of {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, Wong check-called a bet of 150,000 from Strebov to see the {5-Diamonds} fall on the turn.

Wong checked again, and Strebkov cranked up his bet size to 375,000. Again, Wong called and a big pot was brewing.

On the river {k-Clubs}, Wong checked once more and Strebkov didn't stop betting. He pushed forward 500,000, to which Wong quickly folded.

Not long after though, the duo would battle again...

No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw

Wong opened to 100,000 from first position and was three-bet to 400,000 by Strebkov on the button.

Wong then went deep into the tank before moving all-in for a little under 1.3 million chips.

Of note, Shanmukha Meruga was in the small blind with just 60,000 chips, so this bet meant business with potential payout implications.

Strebkov thought for about three minutes before ultimately folding and returning some of the chips from the previous hand to Wong.

No-Limit Hold'em

Patrik Ciklamini shoved his last 260,000 into the middle and Denis Strebkov was the lone caller.

Patrik Ciklamini: {a-Spades}{8-Spades}
Denis Strebkov: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Strebkov's ace-queen held on to eliminate Ciklamini from the tournament in sixth place for $17,119.

Hooman Nizad Eliminated in 7th Place ($12,715)

Hooman Nizad

Big O

Richard Bai raised in first position to 90,000 and was called by Hooman Nizad directly to his left.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts} and Bai quickly bet the size of the pot, 260,000. Nizad thought for about three minutes before finally moving all-in for a little under 600,000. Bai quickly called.

Hooman Nizad: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}
Richard Bai: {a-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades}

Both players had the nut low draw, but Bai also had a pair of aces versus Nizad's pair of kings.

The turn brought the {q-Hearts}, and the river came the {q-Spades} with Bai's aces and queens winning him a massive pot to vault him well over two million chips.

Wong Takes from Arnold

Level 24

Pot-Limit Omaha

Jerry Wong raised to 72,000 from the small blind and Pearce Arnold called from the big blind.

The flop was {9-Spades}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Wong checked. Arnold bet 100,000 and Wong called.

The turn was {6-Clubs} and both players checked to see {k-Spades} on the river.

Wong checked and Arnold bet 150,000. Wong called quickly and turned over {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a straight. Arnold mucked the losing hand.

Bai Brings the Pressure to Strebkov

Level 24

Pot-Limit Omaha

In the big blind, Richard Bai called a raise from Denis Strebkov on the button.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, and the action was checked through. On the {5-Spades} turn however, Bai led out for 80,000 but Strebov called.

The river brought the {j-Hearts}, and Bai fired once more, this time for 240,000. Strebkov took his time to think, but ultimately folded, awarding the pot to Bai.
