Monnette Frustrated After Losing Another

Level 29

John Monnette: {x-}{x-}/{4-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} - folded
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

John Hoang completed and was called by John Monnette. Hoang bet again on fourth and Monnette called to fifth. This time Monnette raised over a bet from Hoang.

Monnette began complaining to the dealer that they weren't keeping track of the pot accurately. "It's like amateur hour," he said as Hoang called.

Hoang led out on sixth and Monnette folded to drop to the short-stack.

Esther Taylor Eliminated in 5th Place ($24,145)

Level 29
Esther Taylor
Esther Taylor

After the controversial hand with John Monnette, Esther Taylor was all-in for her ante against John Hoang and Monnette.

Hoang later bet into a side pot on fifth and seventh streets, with Monnette calling each.

Esther Taylor: {x-}{x-}/{4-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Hearts}
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}
John Monnette: {x-}{x-}/{k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}

Taylor actually showed great hole cards in the {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}, but she was still left with only a losing pair of dueces.

Hoang showed {8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for trip eights, and Monnette showed {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a losing two pair, which awarded the side pot to Hoang, who now has the chip lead.

Taylor Left on Fumes Amid Controversy

Level 29

Esther Taylor: {x-}{x-}/{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}/{x-}
John Monnette: {x-}{x-}/{10-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}/{x-}

John Monnette bet on fifth and sixth streets and was called by Esther Taylor, who had 10,000 left heading to seventh.

As Taylor was being dealt her final card, it hit her chips in the middle and flipped over, exposing the {3-Hearts}. Monnette argued that the card should be shuffled back in the deck, while Taylor said she was going to flip the card over anyway.

A tournament official had to be called over and the clock paused as the situation was resolved. The floor ruled in Monnette's favor, saying the card had to be replaced.

Both players checked and Monnette showed {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for two pair. Taylor had {6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Spades} and mucked.

"That's as bad a ruling as I've ever seen," Peder Berge said after the hand.

Carol Fuchs Eliminated in 6th Place ($17,658)

Level 28
Carol Fuchs
Carol Fuchs

After opting to put in a full bet with her bring-in, Carol Fuchs was all-in on fourth street for her last 5,000 chips versus John Hoang and Peder Berge, who checked the pot down to seventh, when Berge put out a bet that Hoang folded to.

Their boards read:

Carol Fuchs: {x-}{x-}/{3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades}/{x-}
Peder Berge: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{q-Spades}{4-Hearts}/{x-}
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{4-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} - folded

Fuchs could only show {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a pair of sixes and an eight-seven low, while Berge showed {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}{2-Spades} for a pair of queens and a seven-four low to scoop the pot and eliminate Fuchs.

Fuchs Quadruples Up

Level 28

Carol Fuchs: {x-}{x-}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}/{x-}
Peder Berge: {x-}{x-}/{8-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}/{x-}
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{k-Clubs}/{x-}
John Monnette: {x-}{x-}/{j-Spades}{9-Clubs}{q-Spades}{4-Spades}/{x-}

Carol Fuchs was all in for 55,000 on third street and up against Peder Berge, John Hoang, and John Monnette. Bergh bet on fourth street to create a side pot, and both Monnette and Hoang called.

All three players checked the rest of the way and Hoang opened up {6-Clubs}{7-Spades}{k-Spades} for two pair, kings and sixes.

"Aces up. Come on, baby!" Fuchs said as she revealed {a-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} for aces and fours to beat all three opponents.

Espen Sandvik Eliminated in 7th Place ($13,202)

Level 28
Espen Sandvik
Espen Sandvik

On third street, Jermain Reid brought in with the {2-Clubs}, Espen Sandvik completed with the {6-Hearts} from his very short stack, then from another short stack, Carol Fuchs raised with the {8-Diamonds}, and John Hoang cold-called behind Fuchs with the {7-Spades}.

Sandvik put the rest of his chips in the middle and the others called as well to build a large pot before fourth street, with Sandvik all-in.

On fourth, Hoang caught the {a-Spades} and led out with a bet. Reid caught the {9-Clubs} and folded, as did Fuchs who caught the {6-Diamonds}.

Cards were turned over at that point as follows,

Espen Sandvik: {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}/{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
john Hoang: {5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}/{7-Spades}{a-Hearts}

Hoang's runout was perfect as he caught {7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts} to make a full house, while Sandvik couldn't improve or make a low to chop, and he was eliminated in 7th place.

Reid Takes a Bunch From Sandvik

Level 28

Jermaine Reid: {x-}{x-}/{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}/{x-}
Espen Sandvik: {x-}{x-}/{2-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}{a-Hearts}/{x-}
John Hoang: {x-}{x-}/{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades} - folded

Jermaine Reid bet on fifth street with a pair of sixes showing and Espen Sandvik called while John Hoang folded. Reid bet again on sixth and Sandvik stuck around to see seventh street.

Reid put out another bet and Sandvik called with {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-} for two pair, eights and deuces. Reid, though, turned over {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for a better two pair, eights and sixes, and began violently shaking his chips in celebration before raking in the massive pot.
