Miyashita Strikes First

Level 41 : 1,300,000/2,500,000, 2,500,000 ante

Wataru Miyashita raised to 5,100,000 from the button and Georgios Sotiropoulos defended his big blind. Both players checked the {3-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop.

Sotiropoulos checked again on the {5-Diamonds} turn and Miyashita bet 5,500,000. Sotiropoulos called and the {9-Spades} river was checked down.

Sotiropoulos turned over {a-Hearts}{7-Spades} for a missed straight draw, while Miyashita had {k-Hearts}{5-Spades} for a pair of fives to win the first significant pot of heads-up play.

After just receiving a double, Jordan Meltzer raised all in for 52 million from the small blind and Wataru Miyashita snap-called from the big blind.

Jordan Meltzer: {a-Spades}{6-Spades}
Wataru Miyashita: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Meltzer woke-up with an ace but was in dominating position after Miyashita rolled over big slick and the {2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} runout ended his tournament in third place for $202,695.

Wataru Miyashita raised to 5,000,000 from under the gun before James Patterson moved his last 12,000,000 into the middle. Action folded back to Miyashita, who called.

James Patterson: {a-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Wataru Miyashita: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}

The flop came down {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. "He hit an eight," Patterson said to his rail with an air of resignation. Drawing to runner-runner, Patterson came up empty on the {6-Clubs}{10-Clubs} turn and river and was eliminated in fourth place.

Neither player connected with the {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} board and Miyashita won the pot with his queen-kicker, making Rubinski the first casualty of Day 3.

The final day of the Event #65: $1,000 Mini Main Event gets underway at noon local time.

Yesterday's Day 2 saw 282 players return to the felt. After 19 levels of play, only five remained, with two-time WSOP bracelet winner Georgios Sotiropoulos leading the pack by a large margin with 105,550,000 chips.

Sotiropoulos holds a commanding chip lead as he looks to capture his third WSOP bracelet; he returns to the tables with almost half of the chips in play. Attempting to chase down Sotiropoulos are the likes of Jordan Meltzer (39,075,000) and Wataru Miyashita (35,900,000), who are neck-in-neck in chips. James Patterson (26,600,000), and James Rubinski (22,325,000) are sitting towards the bottom of the chip counts with roughly ten big blinds each.
