Welcome to Day 1b of Event #52: $1,000 Seniors Championship

Wednesday's Day 1a saw a total of 2,432 players enter Event #52: $1,000 Seniors Championship with just 486 making the cut for Friday's Day 2. Today's Day 1b action welcomes a new field of players that will be filled with plenty of familiar faces.

George Bronstein finished yesterday’s play with the chip lead at 585,000, followed close behind by Tim Killday with 433,000 and “Miami" John Cernuto at 355,500. Others to survive the day included Twitch streamer Deborah Vanneste (196,000), Poker Hall of Famer Jack McClelland (175,000), and former Main Event champion Greg Raymer (170,500).

Another massive field will try to replicate that feat when play begins at 10 a.m. PT on Thursday. Like yesterday, they'll begin with 20,000 chips and will play 11 hour-long levels. Late registration is open until the end of the dinner break, which follows Level 8 which is projected to be around 8:15 p.m.

Plenty of notables fell during the 11 hours of play on Day 1a, including defending champion Howard Mash, Tom McEvoy, Matt Glantz, Barry Greenstein, and Dan Heimiller. However, their tournament isn’t necessarily over; anyone who busted yesterday can re-enter today.

It will be another day of action as the over-50 club takes over the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, and PokerNews will be on hand providing all the live updates and chip counts as the field attempts to navigate their way through to Day 2.
