The online version of the 2020 World Series of Poker, being run at GGPoker, has made 2020 unusual in a lot of ways. The most obvious, of course, is that there will be no bracelets handed out live in the summer of 2020, but the online version of the WSOP has also had positive impacts.
After The Opener set a new record for entries for a WSOP event at just under 30,000, Event #71: BIG 50, $1M GTD has just crushed that previous record. When the dust cleared on the 15th Day 1 flight, a whopping 44,576 entries put their $50 down to compete for the $1 million guaranteed prize pool. Of course, that guarantee was summarily crushed, with the current prize pool sitting at $2,050,496.
The final flight for Day 1 just ended, and an additional 554 players survived through to Day 2. That brings the Day 2 starting total to 4,153 entries with 2,300 places paid. The first players to bust in the money will get paid just $203, but everyone who makes the final table of this $50 event is guaranteed at least $15,000, and the winner can expect to turn their $50 buy in into $211,282, a bracelet, and a package to the WSOP Europe.
Among the players with Day 2 stacks are GGPoker ambassadors Daniel Negreanu, Pete Chen and Michael Soyza, who all have stacks going into Day 2. In addition to the GGPoker ambassadors, big name players like Jack Salter and runner-up from Event #58 Chris Moorman are in Day 2, as well as GGPoker streamers Patrick "Egption" Tardif, Kevin Martin, Andre "bluffpatrol_dre" Ebert, Dan Almeida, Johan "YoHViraL" Guilbert, and Andrii "BabyShark19" Kozlenko among others. Austria's Jefferey "ReadyGambo" Jenkins leads the way into Day 2 with the only stack above 300K, while a few players, including Canadian Daniel "TheFarmer" Ghionoiu and German "HPBAXX" who round out the top 3 stacks with 288K and 266K respectively.
Action for Day 2 gets underway at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time, and PokerNews will be here watching the action to bring you exciting hands throughout the day. The day won't finish until they award a bracelet and more than $200K to the winner, and PokerNews will be here till the end.
