Fitzgerald Misses Out on Final Two Tables

Level 40 : 1,250,000/2,500,000, 2,500,000 ante
Christopher Fitzgerald
Christopher Fitzgerald

Short-stack Christopher Fitzgerald, down to just a little over four big blinds, had been taking his time in the previous hands with the big payjump looming between 19th and 18th place. However, from under the gun with {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}, he went for it and found a caller in big blind Andrei Konopelko with {a-Spades}{9-Spades}.

Konopelko spiked a fortuitous flop with {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, albeit Fitzgerald was still drawing very live with his nut flush draw and overcard. Neither the {5-Spades} turn nor {4-Spades} river helped him, though, ending his bid in 19th place.

The remaining eighteen players moved to the two outer feature stages in the Thunderdome and did a redraw for the final two tables.
