Vitor Rangel Takes The Chip Lead into MONSTER STACK Final Day
After a day where many saw their dreams of becoming a WSOP millionaire fade some still have that glimmer of hope intact, and no more so than Vitor Rangel who will lead the returning 29 players for Day 4 of Event #48: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em MONSTER STACK with the $1,037,451 first-place prize in their sights.
Rangel bagged 8,910,000 but James Carroll who has 8,165,000, Harald Sammer (7,170,000) and Rittie Chuaprasert (5,785,000) follow closely behind.
Michael Benko (5,250,000), Colin McHugh (4,310,000), James Salmon (4,210,000), two-time WSOP bracelet winner Steve Billirakis (4,145,000) and Jimmy Chen (4,000,000) also bagged considerable stacks.
Day 3 Action
When play in the Amazon room got underway, 257 chip stacks were still at the tables. However, this number reduced quickly, and after ten 60-minute levels, just 29 remained.
There was a rare occurrence at the beginning of the day after the overnight seat draw brought two players together with the same name. Daniel Wojcik, of the United States, was sat next to Canada's Daniel Wojcik when play got underway. The latter Wojcik only had 16 big blinds and exited within an hour after he was unable to spin up his stack.
The first two million pot occurred when Frenchman Alexis Fleur four-bet all in with ace-king and lost to Almedin Imsirovic's pocket kings. However, Imsirovic was unable to continue with his momentum and ultimately exited in 98th place for $7,911.
Five-time WSOP ring winner Kurt Jewell, bracelet winner Tyler Patterson and start-of-day big stack Jimmy Guerrero all exited before the second break, with James Stewart, who came into play with over a million chips, departing in 100th place for $6,794.
Start-of-day chipleader Billirakis, the youngest ever bracelet winner aged 21 years and ten days, saw his stack yo-yo throughout the day but eventually pulled it back to progress into Day 4 with a top-ten stack.
One player who will need a lot of luck tomorrow is David Cabrera Polop after he bagged 20,000 chips, worth just one ante. But it remains to be seen how he fairs with his 'chip and a chair'.
The players will return Wednesday, June 27th, at 11 a.m. local time and will start the day on level 31 with the blinds at 50,000-100,000 and a 15,000 ante.
