Chidwick Back from the Dead; Friedman Busts
Stephen Chidwick was down to as low as 3,000 in chips, and this tournament didn't look like it was going to work out for the young British grinder. Despite some rather unfortunate run outs of the cards and pots that he watched get pushed the other way, Chidwick hasn't given up yet. In fact, he's worked his stack back into the black with 35,000 in chips.
Here are two recent hands involving Chidwick:
Bill Chen: (X-X) / / (X)
Chidwick: (X-X) / / (X)
Perry Friedman: (X-X) / / (X)
On this first hand, Chidwick led with a bet on fourth street, Friedman called, and Chen called. On fifth, Chidwick led again, Friedman called, and Chen called.
On sixth street, Chidwick bet out, Friedman raised, Chen called, and then Chidwick reraised. Friedman had 1,200 behind and called all in for 4,400 total, then Chen called to close the action.
With 800 in the side pot between Chen and Chidwick, the dealer pitched out seventh street to all three players. Chidwick bet, and Chen folded. Chidwick showed for a six smooth. Friedman showed and was eliminated from the tournament.
Chidwick won that pot, and Chen lost it, but on the next hand it would be Chen taking some chips back from his table mate.
Chen: (X-X) / / (X)
Chidwick: (X-X) / / (X)
Picking up the action in this hand on fourth street, Chidwick bet, and Chen called. Then on fifth street, the same action occurred before Chen took the lead on sixth street after Chidwick paired up. He led out there, and Chidwick called to head to seventh.
After the final card, both players checked.
Chen showed a nine with , and Chidwick mucked his hand.
As a result of all of this, with Friedman being eliminated, Chidwick sat on 35,000 and Chen ended with 61,500.
