Death Card on the River Spells Doom for Lehr

Level 15 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Keith Lehr on Day 1.
Keith Lehr on Day 1.

A short-stacked Keith Lehr moved all in from middle position for 140,000 only to have Brian Hastings isolate with an all-in three-bet. The rest of the players folded and the cards were turned up.

Lehr: {9-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Hastings: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Hastings was ahead but Lehr was drawing to two live cards. The {5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs} flop actually hit one of those cards and gave Lehr the lead with a pair of eights. The {4-Clubs} turn was no help to Hastings, and all Lehr needed to do was dodge an ace and queen on the river to stay alive. That was easier said than done though as the dealer burned and put out the {A-Spades}. Hastings spiked an ace to win the pot and bounce Lehr from the tournament.
