A Double and a Triple

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Brent Wheeler raised in late position, and Brian Nichols and William James called out of the blinds. The flop came {5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, the action checked to Wheeler who went all in for less than a bet, and only James called.

Wheeler: {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}
James: {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

James was drawing to any king, ten, or diamond, but the turn and river bricked {2-Spades}, {j-Spades} respectively, doubling Wheeler to 60,000.

Over on the other table, after failing to run a bluff against Mark Mierkalns, John Zipperer was down to just 15,000. He moved all in, Grayson Scoggin and Ahmed Mohamed called from the blinds, and checked it down as the board came {j-Spades}{k-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}{10-Hearts}. We missed Scoggin's hand, but Mohamed showed {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a pair of tens. Zipperer had the best hand with {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, however, and tripled up.

James Doubles Through Obi

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

William James raised it up in the cutoff, and Chiduziem Obi defended his big blind.

The dealer rolled out {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} for the flop, and Obi check-raised. James made the call. The turn brought a {k-Diamonds}, and Obi continued firing. James raised him though, and Obi came back with three bets to put James all in. "Wow," Obi said as James rolled over his hand.

James: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Obi: {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Obi needed the last king in the deck, but the {q-Hearts} came on the river, allowing James to double through.

Zipperer Fighting Back

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

Binh Ly opened in early position, John Zipperer defended from the blinds, and the flop fell {10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. Zipperer check-called a bet, the turn brought the {6-Spades}, and Zipperer hesitated before checking again. Ly checked behind.

The {6-Diamonds} completed the board, Zipperer led out, and Ly quickly called.

"Six," Zipperer announced, showing {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for trip sixes.

Ly mucked, and Zipperer picked up the pot.

Level 19 : 6,000/12,000, 0 ante

John Zipperer raised in the cutoff, Aaron Ogus and Grayson Scoggin called out of the blinds, and all three players checked on a flop of {7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. The turn was the {3-Diamonds}, Ogus led out, and only Scoggin called.

The river was a repeat seven - the {7-Hearts} - and Ogus led out again. This time Scoggin raised, prompting Ogus to fold.

Thomas Blizniak
Thomas Blizniak

Thomas Blizniak raised from middle position, and Alex Queen bumped it to three bets from his immediate left. John Zipperer, in the small blind, called, as did Blizniak for the last of his chips.

The flop came {9-Spades}{q-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, and Queen bet into the side pot, forcing Zipperer to fold.

Blizniak: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Queen: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

No ten emerged to save Blizniak, eliminating him from the tournament.
