Polk Completes Amazing Comeback To Beat Lichtenberger

Douglas Polk
Douglas Polk

Douglas Polk was down to just 12,300 chips at one point but that didn't keep him from making the round of 16. Andrew Lichtenberger lost a series of all ins ending his tournament with a $966 profit. We caught the final two hands that secured the win for Polk.

On a {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop Lichtenberger check-called a 15,600 bet and the turn was the {4-Spades}. Both players checked and the river was the {J-Diamonds}. Lichtenberger opted to bet 36,000 and after tanking for quite a bit Polk moved all in. Lichtenberger did some thinking on his part before releasing his hand. After this hand Polk was up to 374,000 while Lichtenberger was getting short, he had 104,000 left.

On the final hand the board read {J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Pol bet 15,600. Lichtenberger called after which the dealer brought out the {K-Spades}. Polk put Lichtenberger all in and he called and mucked after his opponent showed {10-Spades}{7-Spades} for trip sevens. Polk moves on to the next round and will play the winner of the match between Brock Parker and Mark Radoja.

Gross Gets By Elias

Jeffrey Gross
Jeffrey Gross

With the chip lead, Jeffrey Gross shoved on the button. Darren Elias called all in for about 60,000 with {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. He looked to get there against the {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} of Gross, but it was going to be difficult to do so after the flop fell {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Elias paired his king, but Gross was well ahead with bottom set. The {8-Hearts} turn and {5-Diamonds} officially ended it, sending Gross to the sweet 16 where he will face Vanessa Selbst.

One Match Remains

Level 58 : 5,000/10,000, 0 ante

Eevert Kokkonen vs. Max Steinberg is the last match going in the round of 32 and Kokkonen just doubled up to take a solid lead.

He opened to 20,000 on the button and Steinberg defended his big blind to see a {J-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop. A check from Steinberg led to a bet of 25,000 from Kokkonen. That was met with a min-raise from Steinberg to 50,000, but Kokkonen came back over the top to 81,000. Steinberg jammed with the bigger stack, Kokkonen called, and the hands were revealed.

Kokkonen: {J-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Steinberg: {K-Hearts}{6-Spades}

Kokkonen was ahead with top pair and maintained it through the {q-Hearts} turn and {4-Spades} river to double up and take about a 380,000 to 100,000 lead.

Parker Doubles Quickly Through Polk

Level 59 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Douglas Polk opted to use one of his lammers immediately to have a stack of 320,000. Brock Parker kept his two lammers behind to start with 160,000 and has evened the match.

Picking up the action on a {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} board, Polk's bet of 42,000 was called by Parker. When the {5-Spades} river fell, Polk bet enough to cover Parker's stack. It didn't take long for Parker to call.

"Eight high," said Polk.

Parker tabled {10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} for a flush to score the first blow in the match.
