Jetten in the Final 64

Peter Jetten just busted Barry Woods. We caught up with him right after the match was done. Jetten told us he he was up 80,000 to 40,000 when the final hand played out. In the 400/800 level he raised to 2,000 from the button and Woods called.

The flop came down {3-}{4-}{5-} and Woods lead out for 2,000, Jetten called. The turn was a {9-} bringing a flush draw and Woods bet 6,000. Jetten made it 17,000 and his opponent moved all in. Jetten called with a set of nines and Woods was drawing dead with {Q-}{5-}. The river was a {10-} and Jetten moves on.

Baumstein and O'Dwyer Advance; Ramdin Goes Home

Victor Ramdin was just eliminated by Dimitar Danchev to be sent home from the tournament while on another table, Scott Baumstein finished off Vojtech Ruzicka to advance to the third round.

On a third table, Steve O'Dwyer defeated Yevgeniy Timoshenko to move on. According to O'Dwyer, Timoshenko raised to 2,000 on the button and O'Dwyer reraised to 5,100 from the big blind. Timoshenko called and the flop came down {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. On the flop, O'Dwyer bet 7,400 and Timoshenko called.

The turn was the {J-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {5-Spades} land on the river. After O'Dwyer checked, Timoshenko fired all in for 36,100. O'Dwyer made the call and Timoshenko turned over the {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. O'Dwyer held the {10-Spades}{6-Hearts} and his flush was the winner to eliminate Timoshenko.

Mercier and Godshall Battling

Level 17 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

On the button, Jacob Godshall raised to 2,000. Jason Mercier reraised all in to put the pressure on Godshall. After a minute of tanking, Godshall called with the {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Mercier held the {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}.

Godshall was all in for 20,000 even and got the double after the board ran out {9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs} to give him a wheel.

Shortly after that, Mercier and Godshall got it all in again. Mercier held the {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades} and Godshall the {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}. The board ran out {J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and Mercier doubled up. He was all in for 15,400 and now has 30,800 plus his two add-on lammers.

Esfandiari Beats Haxton

Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

Antonio Esfandiari just beat Isaac Haxton heads up. In the 400/800 level we caught a hand in which Haxton raised the button to 1,600 and Esfandiari called. The flop came down {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Esfandiari check-called a 2,100 chip bet. The turn was the {4-Spades} and Esfandiari check-called 5,200. The river was the {5-Spades} and both players checked. Esfandiari showed {A-Spades}{2-Clubs} and took down the pot.

We ran over to the table as both players got up from their seats and Esfandiari told us what happened in the final hand. "I raised the button to 2,200 and he called," Esfandiari started his explanation. The flop came down {J-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Esfandiari's 3,400 continuation bet got raised to 6,400. Esfandiari put Haxton all in for 10,000 more and he called with {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Esfandiari showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and the turn, the {K-Diamonds}, and river, the {2-Hearts}, didn't change the outcome.

"See one of you fish cakes soon!" Esfandiari said laughingly to Mercier and Godshall. One of these players will be his next opponent.

Randy Loses

Alexander Venovski limped on the button. Randy Lew moved all in for just about 20,000 more and was immediately called. Lew was not in a good spot as Venocski held {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} while Lew possessed a much inferior {A-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Crazier things have happened and it was off to the flop.

{Q-Spades}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts} all made an appearance on the flop, which only put Lew in a deeper hole as he was not able to catch up. A {6-Spades} on the turn gave Lew and open ended straight draw. But the meaningless {k-Hearts} fell on the river and Lew was eliminated.

The 2009 Champ is Gone, Lacay Moves On

Leo Wolpert won the $10,000 World Series of Poker Heads Up Championship back in 2009 but this year he didn't get past the second round. Wolpert played top French pro Ludovic Lacay who finished 16th in the 2009 WSOP Main Event cashing $500,557. He also has two top three finishes in World Poker Tour events and two other WSOP final tables to his name.

Lacay told us he took an early lead which got erased when Wolpert won an all in with {K-}{3-} against {a-}{4-} for his last chips. After that Lacay was down some and raised from the button to 2,000 with {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Wolpert re-raised to 5,500 and Lacay called. The flop came down {K-}{Q-}{6-} with one diamond and Lacy called a 6,000 chip continuation bet. The turn was the {8-Diamonds} and Wolpert bet 8,600. Lacay made it 22,000 and called all in for 30,000 total when Wolpert shoved on him.

Wolpert showed {Ks]{2-Spades} and needed to dodge quite some cards to win this match. Lacay hit the {7-Diamonds} on the river and doubled up putting him back in the lead. On the final hand Wolpert was all in for 19,000 chips with {3-}{3-} against the Frenchman's {5-}{5-} and Lacay's hand held up. Lacay will play the winner of the match between Amritraj Singh and Adam Ross.
