"Ya Gotta Win the Races"

Winning races is key to success in large tournaments, of this much we are certain.

Calvin Kordus did just that after calling a three-bet shove from Huy Nguyen. Nguyen tabled {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}, Kordus opened {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} and off we went.

The flop brought a great sweat: {9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. Kordus picked up a myriad of outs, and the {Q-Hearts} on the turn was certainly one of them. Nguyen was drawing slim going to the river, and didn't find any help from the {9-Hearts}.

Kordus was shipped the pot, chipping up to 510,000 while Nguyen headed to the cage to pick up his 30th place price money: $12,426

"Ya gotta win the races," Kordus professed to his table after the hand.

Ain't that the truth sir.
