Johnny Chan playing in Event #54
Johnny Chan playing in Event #54
Ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Johnny Chan is also in the crowd today checking out the final table. Johnny Chan is also the last player to ever win back-to-back WSOP main event championships. That is a feat that may never get replicated ever again due to the gigantic fields. When Chan won in 1987, he outlasted a field of 152 players. The next year in 1988 there were 167 entrants.

Chan lost heads-up to Phil Hellmuth in 1989. Had he won that main event he would have run off three-consecutive world championships. No one has ever won three in a row and only Chan, Stu Ungar, Doyle Brunson, and Johnny Moss have won consecutive championships.
