Truong Finds a Double

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Brett Apter open-jammed and Partick Truong called putting his stack at risk.

Brett Apter: {q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Partick Truong: {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Truong was ahead but had a sweat after the {4-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop gave Apter a gut-shot staright draw.

The {a-Spades} turn changed nothing nor the {a-Clubs} river and Truong doubled up for 805,000.

While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the Main Event and High Roller, wed be remiss if we didnt tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah's Las Vegas.

In Event #4: $400 NLH Monster Stack, 225 runners created a $74,250 prize pool that was paid out to the top 34 players. Among those to cash but fall short of the final table were Patrick Testoni (11th - $1,233), Robert Cote (13th- $1,037), Nicholas Haynes (18th - $893), Brenda DeWitt (21st - $787), and Brian Green (23rd - $711).

In the end, it was Virginia native Mark Liedtke who collected every chip in play to capture his first ring along with a $17,309 payday.

It feels pretty good, he said after the event. This is Liedtkes 40th career Circuit cash, and hes come close to victory before, but until today always fell short of a ring. I got second twice this year, he recalled. And a couple other final tables.

Liedtke is primarily a cash game player. Tournaments are more of a fun thing for me, he said

Apter Takes Two

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

In the first hand back from break, Partick Truong opened for 120,000 and Brett Apter defended to see a {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop.

Both players checked to the {2-Diamonds} turn where Apter check-called Truong's 100,000 bet.

The {9-Spades} completed the board on the river and both players checked to showdown.

Truong tabled {3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} but he was out-kicked by Apter's {j-Hearts}{2-Hearts}.

A few hands later saw a limped pot see a {5-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop.

Truong check-called Apter's 60,000 bet and the {q-Clubs} turn was checked to the {7-Clubs} river where Truong check-called Apter's 125,000 bet.

Apter flipped over {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for two-pair and Truong mucked his hand giving Apter the pot.

Ryan Awwad

There was all in action after a {q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades} flop between Ryan Awwad and Brett Apter with Awwad at risk.

Brett Apter: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Ryan Awwad: {q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Both players flopped top-pair but Apter held the better kicker and neither the {4-Diamonds} turn nor the {6-Clubs} river helped Awwad as he took his exit in third place.

Ryan Hohner open-jammed from the small blind and Partick Truong called from the big blind.

Ryan Hohner: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
