Joshua Martin Captures Gold Ring in Just His Fifth-Ever Tournament
The $1,700 Main Event is just one of a dozen gold ring events taking place at the Harrah’s Cherokee stop. For over a week, players have been competing for WSOP Circuit hardware and big chunks of prize money.
In Event #7: $400 No-Limit Hold’em, a tournament that drew a massive 1,667 entries and created a $550,110 prize pool, Joshua Martin of Yadkinville, North Carolina was playing in just his fifth-ever tournament when he came out on top to win $83,373 and his first gold ring.
It was an especially impressive victory considering Martin began the final table with the short stack of just 13 big blinds.
“I have only played in four tournaments before this,” he said. “I have to mention my boy Warren Sheaves that won the Global last year, he’s the one that really helped me put together my game plan and it worked.”
It was a one and done for Martin, who had to head back home after the win with no plans to return for the rest of the series.
