Kirby Takes from Fielder

Jeff Fielder opened in middle position, Matt Kirby called out of the small blind, and the flop fell {4-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. Kirby check-called a 175,000-chip bet, and both players checked on the turn ({4-Spades}) and the river ({9-Diamonds}).

"Nine," Kirby announced.

"Nine?" Fielder echoed, confused.

Kirby tabled {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a pair of nines, and Fielder mucked his cards.

Nines Hold for Ilich

Paul Phillips opened for 155,000 under the gun only to have Jeff Fielder three-bet to 300,000 from the cutoff. A short-stacked Drazen Ilich then moved all in from the button for 660,000, Phillips folded, and Fielder snap-called.

Fielder: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Ilich: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

It was a classic flip, and according to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Ilich had a 52.65% chance of winning the hand. The {K-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop saw his chances increase to 72.83%, while the {3-Spades} turn upped it a bit to 77.27%.

Fielder could still win with either an ace, queen or deuce on the river, but it wasn't in the cards as the {K-Hearts} fell to give Ilich the double.

Kirby Shows an Eight

Jeff Fielder opened to 100,000 from the cutoff seat, Matt Kirby called from the big blind, and the flop fell {j-Spades}{10-Spades}{a-Hearts}. Kirby check-called a bet, and the turn brought the {q-Spades}. Kirby led out for 235,000, and Fielder called.

The {3-Diamonds} completed the board, and Kirby fired 365,000. Fielder begrudgingly folded, and Kirby showed the {8-Diamonds}.

Value Betting or Bluffing with the Best Hand?

Matt Kirby opened the action for 125,000 and received a call from Krissi McFarland in the hijack. Drazen Ilich came along from the big blind, and three players took a flop of {Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Spades}, which they all checked.

When the dealer burned and turned the {6-Spades}, Ilich led out for 155,000, Kirby folded, and McFarland raised to 310,000. Ilich made the call and then checked the {3-Clubs} river. McFarland wasted little time in dropping in five pink T100,000 chips for a bet of 500,000, and after about 30 seconds Ilich made the call. McFarland tabled {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} and it was good as a frustrated Ilich showed {9-Diamonds}{X-} and then send his cards to the muck.
