Poker Is A Brutal Game Sometimes

Poker is a game that can give you both the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Unfortunately for Brett Schwertley, he knows that all too well right now, as he has been eliminated after two brutal suckouts in the last 20 minutes.

On the first hand, we caught the action on a flop of {5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. There was 120,000 in the pot, and Schwertley led out for 82,000. Sam McGrath was his lone opponent, and he elected to make the call. The turn brought the {4-Diamonds}, and Schwertley checked. McGrath announced a bet of 120,000, leaving himself just over 140,000 behind. Schwertley announced all in having him covered, and McGrath called. The cards were flipped, and it was a classic cooler.

Schwertley: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
McGrath: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

Schwertley had turned the nut flush, but he needed to dodge the board pairing to win the hand. He couldn't do it, as the river came the {4-Spades}. That knocked him down to 150,000.

He hung around for about 15 minutes before sticking the rest of his chips in. McGrath raised it to 31,000 under the gun, and James Mordue made the call. Schwertley was next to act, and he went all in for 133,000 more. McGrath folded, but Mordue called. The cards were tabled, and Schwertley was once again way ahead.

Schwertley: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Mordue: {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}

The flop was safe for Schwertley, coming {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. The turn came the {q-Hearts}, giving Mordue flush draw outs. He wouldn't hit the flush on the river, but he did hit the {8-Clubs} to give him a full house and end Schwertley's day in brutal fashion.
