All-In and a Call!

Finally, after what seemed like an hour of boredom, we just had an all-in and a call.

David Hiers has been nursing the short stack -- okay, the very short stack -- all day, holding onto his last few chips like a priceless artifact. With the betting folded around to him in the small blind, Hiers mustered the courage to move all in for his last 8,000. Chip leader Dennis Meierotto was in the big blind, and he quickly called the extra 4,000, putting Hiers on the brink of elimination.

Showdown:
Hiers: {A-Clubs} {9-Hearts}
Meierotto: {J-Spades} {4-Spades}

Ahead, but at risk for his tournament life, Hiers watched the flop come a dramatic and disastrous {4-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs}. Meierotto had come from behind to make the leading two pair, and he had his foot squarely on the throat of Hiers' chip stack.

But a favorable bolt of lightning would strike on the turn. The {A-Hearts} peeled off, making Hiers a higher two pair and putting him just one card from a much-needed double-up. Sure enough, the {3-Diamonds} ragged off on the end, and David Hiers is now just a bit healthier with his 26,000 chips.
