Big Names Out in Force for WPT WOC Shooting Stars for Charity

Some of the biggest names of poker are gearing up for the Shooting Stars for Charity tournament which takes place tonight as part of the World Poker Tour World Online Championships.

They will be joined by actors, models, musicians and sports stars to raise money for 1DaySooner, a charity that advocates on behalf of human trial challenges to speed up development of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The two-day tournament comes with a $1,100 buy-in, with $100 from each entry going direct to charity. The tournament comes with a $500,000 guarantee. Any player that knocks out a Shooting Star will win a $500 bounty.

Stars Out in Force for Charity Tournament

Everywhere you look there are superstars of poker gearing up to play in the tournament. Four-time WPT Main Event champion Darren Elias, former WPT and WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess, 2017 partypoker MILLION North America champion Mike McDonald will all bring a wealth of tournament experience, as will the likes of Liv Boeree, Kenny Hallaert, Steffen Sontheimer, Sam Trickett and Igor Kurganov.

"I��m delighted the WPT and partypoker have come together to help make a difference in these difficult times," said Trickett. ��I��m looking forward to giving players the chance to take my bounty, and if you think you can beat me, come and give it a go!��

Meanwhile, Boeree said she was looking forward to getting back to the online felt.

Aylar Lie

Poker players aren't the only famous faces getting up for what promises to be a star-studded event at the online tables on partypoker.

Former Manchester United footballers Darren Fletcher and Wes Brown, actress and model Aylar Lie, Love Island's Luke Mabbott, Chairman of World Snooker and sports event promoter Barry Hearn, actor Patrick Murray and Argentinian rapper Alejandro ��Papo MC�� Lococo are all scheduled to play.

Raising Money for 1DaySooner

The charity 1DaySooner stands to benefit at least $50,000 from the tournament, and has already gained the support of more than 32,000 volunteers across 140 countries in their development of a COVID-19 vaccine

"We are very grateful for the generosity from partypoker and the players," said Abie Rohrig, Communications Director at 1DaySooner. "We are confident that the donations will go a long way toward getting us a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible."

Live Stream Schedule

The tournament will be live-streamed on partypokerTV �C partypoker��s Twitch channel. Commentary will be provided in English by James Dempsey and Henry Kilbane, in Russian by Dmitry Shakov and Andrey Budykin and in German by Stefan Hachmeister and Christophe Gross.
