WSOP Champions and Runners Up
Day 1c of this event turned up a total of 577 runners and among the field sits a handful of players who have at one point in time achieved the greatest accomplishment in poker: Winning the World Series of Poker Main Event.
Greg Raymer skyrocketed to stardom when he overcame a field of 2,576 players to win the 2004 World Series of Poker championship and has been a key ambassador for the game of poker ever since. Raymer is currently serving with Maria Ho as one of the ambassadors for the WinStar World Casino for the 2012 River Poker Series.
A few tables over sits not one, but two WSOP Main Event champions. The 1998 champion Scotty Nguyen is seated at the opposite end of the table from the man credited helping to start the poker boom, the 2003 WSOP champion Chris Moneymaker.
Players in today's flight also have the chance to be playing with men who famously finished second in the most prestigious event of the year. TJ Cloutier was the runner up to Bill Smith in 1985 and once again to Chris Ferguson in 2000. Across the room you can also find Paul Wasicka who came in second to Jamie Gold in 2006.
Only time will tell if these legends of poker will be able to overcome the field here in Thackerville, Oklahoma in what is their last opportunity to make the Day 2 field.
