Cates Stops the Ivey Train for a Moment

Level 19 : 0/0, 80,000 ante

In a limped pot to the {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop, Dan cates bet 200,000 with the {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for two pair and Phil Ivey called with the {K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The {7-Spades} turn was checked, as was the {8-Clubs} river, and Cates won the pot.

The next limped pot brought a flop of {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Cates checked his {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, Ivey checked behind with {Q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. The {6-Hearts} turn was checked, and Cates' bet of 225,000 on the {6-Spades} river was called by Ivey.

Cates then opened to 575,000 with the {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Ivey quickly prepared a three-bet before making it more than 2.3 million to go with pocket aces. A snap-fold followed and Cates received a walk with the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} right after.

Ivey Pounding Away at Cates

Level 19 : 0/0, 80,000 ante

Dan Cates raised it up with the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and Phil Ivey called with {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} to see a flop of {Q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. With more than 1.2 million in the pot, Ivey bet two-third and Cates folded his pair.

Ivey limped in with the {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} and Cates raised to 660,000 with {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}. Ivey three-bet to more than 1.8 million and Cates snap-folded.

Soon after, the duo invested 660,000 to see a flop of {Q-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Ivey picked up a ton of equity with {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}, while Cates snap-folded pocket eights to a bet of 750,000, showing plenty of frustration.

After a limped pot to the {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop, Cates bet the {10-Hearts} turn for 325,000 with his {Q-Clubs}{9-Spades} and Ivey called with the {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}. The {Q-Hearts} river was checked and Ivey claimed yet another pot.

Ivey limped-shoved his {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} the next hand and Cates snap-folded once more.

Next Break; Ivey's Trend Continues

Level 18 : 0/0, 60,000 ante

Dan Cates limped in with the {A-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and Phil Ivey checked with the {K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. On the {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} flop, Ivey bet 120,000 and Cates called. Both players quickly checked the {J-Spades} turn, Cates also instantly checked the {8-Spades} river.

Ivey made it 400,000 to go and Cates elected to fold.

The remaining few hands in the level brought no further action and the players headed into a quick 10-minute break. The recent momentum clearly favors Ivey, while Cates has seen his lead reduced significantly since the heads-up started.
