Rocky Wylie Eliminated in 17th Place ($8,820)

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Rocky Wylie
Rocky Wylie

There was heads up action between Nicholas Hammarstrom from the hijack and Rocky Wylie from the big blind after a {a-Hearts}{8-Spades}{j-Hearts} flop.

Wylie check-jammed after Hammarstrom tossed out a continuation bet and was snap-called.

Rocky Wylie: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Nicholas Hammarstrom: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Wylie paired his ace but was drawing to running cards after seeing Hammarstrom held top two-pair.

Unfortunately for Wylie, the {6-Hearts} turn left him drawing dead and the {3-Clubs} river ended his tournament in 17th place for $8,820.

Pat Steele Eliminated in 18th Place ($8,820)

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Pat Steele
Pat Steele

Action folded to MSPT Hall of Famer Pat Steele who raised all in for 505,000 from the button and Chan Pelton looked him up from the big blind.

Pat Steele: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Chan Pelton: {a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

Steele had Pelton dominated until the {6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop hit the felt pairing Pelton's six.

The {9-Clubs} turn left Steele needing a lucky lady, but the {2-Clubs} completed the board on the river and ended his tournament in 18th place for $8,820.

Pierce Rivers Ace to Stay Alive

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

A series of preflop raises saw John Pierce get his 630,000 stack into the middle from the cutoff and Josh Reichard called from the hijack.

John Pierce: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Josh Reichard: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Pierce held the best pocket pair and the {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop didn't change a thing.

The {10-Spades} turn did put Reichard in the lead with a set, but the roller-coaster ride wasn't over as the dealer dropped the {a-Diamonds} on the river to keep Pierce's Main Event alive.

PokerNews Podcast

In the latest PokerNews Podcast, Chad Holloway and Jesse Fullen discuss their recent road trip across the Lone Star State as a part of PokerNews' Texas Week, which you can read about in full here.

Along with senior writer Jon Sofen, the trio spent six days traveling to 26 different poker rooms in Houston, Austin, Odessa, Midland, Fort Worth, Dallas, and College Station. They also swung by Doyle Brunson's hometown of Longworth as well as Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, where "Texas Dolly" attended college and excelled at both basketball and track.

In addition to exploring rooms such as Texas Card House, The Lodge (where they touched base with Doug Polk), KoJack's, Red Star Social, Shuffle 214, Wautauga Social Lounge, Poker House Dallas, and Game On Social, the crew also stopped by some historical poker sites, such as the graves of Poker Hall of Famers Jack "Treetop" Straus and Johnny Moss.

The Texas poker market has grown leaps and bounds over the past five years, and if you've ever wanted a glimpse into what it's like, this week's episode is for you!

Fair's Big Blind Special Sends Grimes Home

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Jeff Grimes
Jeff Grimes

Jeff Grimes limped-in under the gun and action folded to Nate Fair who checked his big blind to see a {10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop.

Action saw Grimes get his 700k stack in the middle and Fair snap-called holding just 25k more in chips.

Jeff Grimes: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Nate Fair: {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

Fair flopped a big blind special with trip threes and the {10-Clubs} turn improved him to a full house.

Grimes needed an ace or ten to stay alive, but the {k-Diamonds} river ended his tournament in 23rd place for $6,147.
