Spears Four-Bet Shoves

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Andy Spears
Andy Spears

Andy Spears is becoming more and more dangerous as this tournament progresses, now crossing the 250,000-chip mark shortly after the dinner break. Spears min-raised to 16,000 from the hijack and Hoss Colao three-bet to 40,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Spears and he four-bet shoved for around 200,000 total. Colao wasted little time in folding, giving Spears a nice pot without seeing a flop.

Rivers Takes a Niagara Fall

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Ryan Rivers, who if you recall finished runner-up in last night's Event #10 for $6,000, was cruising along here in Event #12, but all of a sudden it took a turn for the worst.

We missed the two hands that led to his demise, but we were informed of what happened by the players at his table. According to them, Rivers was crippled after playing a big pot holding {7-}{7-} against a player who got all in for 85,000 or so with {k-}{10-}. The flop gave Rivers' opponent a straight, and then the turn and river both blanked.

Not long after, Rivers got the last of his chips holding a {k-Clubs}{10-} of his own and was racing against the {4-}{4-} of Matt De Dominicis. The small pocket pair held, and just like that Rivers found himself on the rail just shy of the dinner break.

Aaron Olshan
Aaron Olshan

Not long ago Aaron Olshan was sitting on a big stack of 140,000. He is now out of the tournament. We're not sure what happened to crippled Olshan, but we were there to catch his final hand.

It happened when Sonny Rattan opened for 21,000 to, according to him, "pick up the blinds." Instead, Olshan ended up calling off his last 17,000 from the button. The blinds both folded and the cards were turned up.

Olshan: {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Rattan: {j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The {j-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop was interesting it that it gave Rattan top pair with a gutshot straight draw, but it also provided Olshan an open-ended straight draw.

"Don't give me two pair," Rattan told the dealer knowing full well a {10-} would give Olshan a straight. The dealer listened and instead put out the {9-Spades} on the turn to give Rattan the straight. Olshan could chop with a ten on the river, but it wasn't in the cards as the {Q-Spades} peeled off.

Kruger Goes 99 Down the Rivers

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We missed the preflop action, but we do know that Barry Kruger got his stack of 42,000 all in and was at risk against Ryan Rivers.

Kruger: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Rivers: {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

Rivers was behind, but these are the sort of hands we've seen him get lucky on all week long. Fortunately for Kruger, this wasn't one of the times as the {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} flop gave him a hammerlock on the hand with middle set. The {3-Hearts} turn left Rivers drawing dead, and after the {Q-Hearts} was put out on the river, Kruger was pushed the pot.
