SCOOP-72-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max], $1M Gtd
Day 2 Completed
The current WSOP Main Event Champion, Damian "pampa27" Salas has taken down the 2021 PokerStars SCOOP-72-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max] for $263,023 after defeating Christian "WATnlos" Rudolph heads-up. The tournament attracted 120 entries to create a prize pool of $1,200,000 with the biggest prizes having been handed out today.
This is the biggest online cash for Salas to date on PokerStars as he won an NLHE tournament back in 2018 for $139,183 and the EPT Online 20: $1,050 NLHE [Last Chance], $500K Gtd last November for $117,475 but he has now almost doubled his previous personal best. But with over $ 2.5 million in cashes in live tournaments, the Argentinian is no stranger to success on the felt even though this is his first SCOOP title.
Besides Salas and Rudolph, Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker, Wiktor "Iimitless" Malinowski, Jon "apestyles" Van Fleet, Christoph "26071985" Vogelsang, Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi, Linus "LLinusLLove" Loeliger, and Bruno "great dant" Volkmann took a seat at the stacked final table.
Place | Player | Country | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Damian "pampa27" Salas | Argentina | $263,023 |
2 | Christian "WATnlos" Rudolph | Germany | $203,788 |
3 | Thomas "WushuTM" Muehloecker | Austria | $157,893 |
4 | Wiktor "Iimitless" Malinowski | Poland | $122,334 |
5 | Jon "apestyles" Van Fleet | United States | $94,783 |
6 | Christoph "26071985" Vogelsang | Germany | $73,437 |
7 | Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi | United Kingdom | $56,899 |
8 | Linus "LLinusLLove" Loeliger | Switzerland | $44,085 |
9 | Bruno "great dant" Volkmann | Brazil | $34,931 |
Even though Shakerchi came in as the shortest stack, he managed to grab two pay jumps as Volkmann and Loeliger both busted before him. Loeliger was left short when he doubled Salas up who then took out Volkmann with pocket aces. Loeliger then lost the remainder of his stack to Malinowski. Shakerchi managed to double up through Malinowski but then gave them all back to him when he ran his pocket kings into the ace-ten of his opponent. The ace on the turn meant that Shakerchi's hopes of a sixth SCOOP title were over.
Vogelsang was then shot down by Muehloecker as he held pocket sevens but Muehloecker had turned trips which held on the river. The chip lead went back and forth for a while between Salas and Rudolph while Day 1 chip leader Van Fleet was not doing too well. In the end, he got all his chips in on the turn with the open-ended straight draw but Muehloecker's top pair became trips on the river to send Van Fleet to the rail.
A special mention for Van Fleet who also streams on Twitch, he has pledged to donate 5% of his $10,300 and $2,100 SCOOP events to one of his mods, "Love2Write". She has an upcoming surgery related to her battle with cancer. He will also be donating 5% to The National Pediatric Cancer Foundation.
Four-handed play lasted 100 minutes with Malinowski pulling the short straw when he bet-called the shove of Rudolph with two pair to see him bust as the German had hit his flush. Muehloecker was the shortest stack and doubled up once before being eliminated forty minutes later when he shoved his last ten big blinds in with ace-five. Salas had looked him up while holding king-jack and flopped top pair to get to the heads-up battle with a chip lead of around 20 big blinds.
The heads-up battle lasted ten minutes with most of the chips going to Salas. In the end, Rudolph three-bet preflop and check-raised on the nine-six-deuce flop to then shove when the king came on the turn. Rudolph had put his tournament life at risk with the flush draw but Salas had turned a set of kings and held when the board was completed.
