Tommy Smith Leads Final 27 Players from Day 1c of RGPS Downstream Main Event
The final flight for the RunGood Poker Series Downstream $575 Main Event has bagged and Tommy Smith is the overall chip leader with 319,500. He will lead a remaining field of 62 runners into Day 2, which will restart at noon on Sunday.
The tournament drew 332 entries and has a prizepool of $166,000, well ahead of the $100K GTD. The top spot will take home $38,179 and the Signature Championship ring.
The top 36 places will make the money. Kyle Kinder, the defending RGPS Downstream champion, will not be defending his title as he fell on Day 1c. He lost a big post for basically his entire stack to Sandra Main, who earned her first-ever tournament cash when she won the Pro Bounty tournament early Wednesday morning. Main will take 183,500 into Day 2. Kinder's dad, Marty, bagged on Day 1a, so there's still a chance a Kinder will bring home the win once again.
Clyde Lorance, who made the final table of this event the last time RGPS visited Downstream, was also eliminated. He earned himself a seat on Poker After Dark thanks to last season's Showbound promotion and he played earlier this week — finishing fourth in a $5,000 sit-and-go and then traveling back to Downstream in time to register for the final starting flight.
Derrick Contreras, the winner of the most recent RGPS Main Event in Council Bluffs, also failed to find a bag for Day 2.
The field is full of familiar faces and some new ones as well, including chip leader Smith. He has one RGPS cash and $6,864 in career tournament winnings on four results.
The tournament will resume Sunday at noon and you can catch all the updates and photos from the event right here on PokerNews.com.
